^sort of, like Newtonian physics it still does a relatively good job of describing most phenomena but it doesn't explain everything, so scientists still use it while they are trying to find a theory that can, like String theory or M theory.

Hey maybe we can travel through wormholes near the black hole at the center of our galaxy to go directly to the center of other nearby galaxies. Then travel throughout the universe would only really be as far away as the center of our own galaxy.

Heard a comic once say that marijuana makes you feel like you could write a book.

we are actually pretty insignificant in the universe
we fight for energy but we fail to notice that there is an huge universe out there and more energy than is imaginable
if we invest in science instead of weapons of mass destruction we would be able to harness some of that energy and we would flourish
we are like kids fighting over a apple when we are surrounded by apple trees we just need to reach our hands in the air and pick as many as we like !

I am what you may call a armature astrologist, chemist, physicist - I have my own theory about black holes - from what I learned about them from other theories and physics - Black holes is not a singularity (in my theory) it's simply so dense that it doesn't take up as much space compared to its gravity pull - To make a comparison, you could say that the distance between atoms normally is that of the distance between Pluto and the sun compared to the size (actually more) - in a black hole, the matter may be so dense that the atoms are almost (it not) touching each other - it can have billion of times denser matter than a normal object.

To comment on String theory and wormholes - String theory does not make a reasonable explanation in my eyes, to say that all matter is made of these strings of energy does not provide any explanations to anything - Black holes acting as a wormhole is like that seen in science fiction movies wont ever be possible if my theory of a black hole is correct - the black hole will destroy anything that gets near it no matter (pun intended) what...

Black holes as a threat? Some scientists make black holes sound like a threat - such as the one that all galaxies have in the center - however I think it is quite the opposite - The black hole in the center of the galaxies functions much like the sun of our solar system, and all the solar systems swirl around it's gravity system (according to my theory *i make my theories out of what I learned from other scientists theories and out of my own reason and understanding - you are welcome to argue with me if you would like)

I would also point out that I don't think multiple dimension and alternative realities are reasonable to think exist - I think multiple big bangs spread throughout the universe might be a possible scenario

Nirah has it correct. I agree completely with him.

I've spent 20 years contemplating the universe and a lot of these newer theories are just so outrageous and defy the laws of physics that it makes me laugh.

There are no wormholes in the universe, Quazars are blackholes in an explosion stage, and blackholes aren't really holes but huge spheres of collapse matter.

Nirah, I will certainly email you a document of my understandings that I am sure you will find incredibly fascinating. Be sure to write me back. ;)

Black holes actually do defy the laws of physics. The KNOWN laws of physics. Thats why the theorys might be so outrageous, and that's why even the smartest people havent figured them out. Hawkins thought he had it, but theres still alot of unknows in the theory.

Hawkins said there are 2 theory's about how the universe would end
1.the force of gravity generated from black holes located at the center of galaxies and the gravity from dark matter is strong enuf to ultimately pull all matter in a single point (a huge black hole)
2.the force of gravity in not strong enuf and eventually all matter will break down into nothingness (atoms so far away that they can't form molecules)
my best bet is that the universe will eventually collapse onto itself into a single point and when that happens it produces the big bang (still need a theory to explain why that happens)...in a never ending cycle
in my theory there are many universes but they are so distant they do not influence one another ...
the question about the end of the universe must be answered and also the basic question of why matter and energy exist
this theory does not require for a god or other dimensions superimposed one on top of another and it implies no form of existence after death but we/i know to little to draw a definitive conclusion!
there is existence and nonexistence there is truth and falseness there is matter and energy , reason and nonsense
there is good and evil ....0 and 1
all that we know is that everything has a base and that base has a dualistic form
he have not yes managed to understand and answer why this dualistic interconnected form exists
from religion to science from math to logic ...they are all interconnected by this dualistic base
we managed to answer HOW they are interconnected in some form but fail to answer WHY!
how and why being the basis of our understanding

@Peter Silva

You can be either an astrophysicists, maybe a physicists but you wouldn't be dealing with black holes and worholes directly, or a cosmologist (like steven hawking.

The theory of relatavity actually predicted the existance of black holes. An experiment done during a solar eclispe actually confirmed the existance of black holes.

Generally, the world of physicists can be described as two theories that have yet to be reconciled. Relativity works in the macroscopic world and can tell us this about baseball trajectories and stellar ordbits and such. Quantum theory can tell us but only in probabilties the state of very small objects like atoms and their constituent parts. Both theories cannot really tell us what goes on inside a singularity.

I don't think scientists make black holes out to be a threat. They only say these things more or less to get ordinary people interested.

If I were to say yeah, a black hole is just super dense matter with an event horizon where light can't escape. Where as I could say (especially for tv science specials) that black holes are enormous and at the center of the milky way lays a super massive black hole 1 billion billion times the size of our sun able to goble up anything that it comes into contact with.

@Nirah

Yes, black holes aren't technically "holes" as the name might imply. If you could hypothetically travel to a black hole then you will find that it neither a hole nor has a surface. Its just a point much like a point you can draw a piece of paper, yet even a point you draw on a piece has some width and length to it. Points much like a line with no width can be hard to visualize but no one can deny their existence.

All this is very nice, and I'm not just dismissing it, I've read a lot of Hawking's, Sagan's, and Maxwell's work. My bookshelf is filled with Michio Kaku books and Hawking's Brief History Of Time and New Brief History of Time, as well as the Universe in a Nutshell and a few more independent works. However this video actually confused me a little bit.
If matter nor light can escape the event horizon of a black hole, how come when two black holes merge, you get a massive outburst of light through the axial direction? Doesn't this beat the point of "light doesn't escape"?

Let me explain to you why we still squabble over feeble resources instead of working together all the time in a very layman fashion.

While some people are naturally inclined to science and to further mankind with minimal self interest most people dont really give a shit about other people, unless the whole community is at risk (say aliens invading for example heh).
It's percieved to theese individuals as far more rewarding to reap immidiate selfish benefits or that they simply deserve and/or know better. Thats why we used to have monarchs and today have politicians.

While we easily could irrigate deserts and make every fucking single country flourish... actually...nevermind

Let me simplify.

Greed. Selfishness. Power.

@IonAphis,

"If matter nor light can escape the event horizon of a black hole, how come when two black holes merge, you get a massive outburst of light through the axial direction? Doesn't this beat the point of 'light doesn't escape'?"

I'm not exactly sure I understand the question but I'm going to assume you mean the jets of gas coming out from the black hole perpendicular to the accretion disk.

The reason for this is that due to the motion of the accretion disk, a lot of matter comes together and collide with one another. This creates of energy around the accretion disk and cause jets of hot gas to shoot out perpendicular to it in both directions. These gases and everything in the accretion have not yet pass through the event horizon. So with enough energy they can be shot out back into space.

wrong Blue_devil(in your first post), we fight for the apple because there is no way yet to reach to the so called apple trees, and there wont be for a very long time, but if you feel ashamed of the human race's fights so far, when we tap into that energy what do you think will happen?, we all live happily ever after?, lol there is still much combat to come, you will never escape it >:)

And the Concept of black holes isn't all that hard to grasp, there points created in many ways, collapsed stars etc... there very dense because of thier extremly strong gravitation pull, thats also why you never see any black holes split or spread apart, they just keep consuming matter fueling the process, you also cant see a black hole, you only know its there by relitivity, by observing its surrounding stars, light etc... that are affected by its presence.

Ive seen and read alot about black holes and other space phenomenon, but havent seen any info on the true final stages, I would suppose that if there were something strong enough to somehow disrupt the gravity of a black hole there would be a massive release, similar to whats known as a big bang, as im sure it would be, think of all the matter and light it would compress and consume for years. But theres a flaw in that theory, proof and evidence of something capable of setting a black hole off like that.

Id agree with the previous comments though about black holes being a gravitational system, thats exactly what they seem to be, they hold other things in place with there pull, kinda like our sun holding our planets in place, at least for the time being >:)
