I have to explain helicopter part, before you start insulting poor pilot. He's been flying all day, trying to put out the nuclear fire. So the pilot basically turned blind, and started dying..
Unfortunately he brought down his crew with him.
The real heroes are the firefighters, trying to putout the fire without any gear. Before everyone else got there. USSR government never told citizens about dangers of radioactivity, or informed them.
Hope you guys enjoy this.. in a way.

ever since ive played stalker im increasingly interested in Chernobyl as my cousin was outside in the rain with no shirt on when the fallout hit Germany a close friend of mine was also in the rain and died 3 years ago of leukemia. 5/5 because many people have no idea how many deaths Chernobyl has already brought

What the fuck? Who's never heard of Chernobyl? Jesus I am only 22 and I found out all about it online/TDC. (The Discovery Channel) Or was it the History Channel? Shit I forgot.

Anyway, for those of you who don't know already, the reason why Radioactivity kills the way it does, is because of Gamma Rays. Gamma Rays are rays that pass through normal matter with a very slight loss of energy and are the lowest on the EM band.

Because there are very few materials that can stop gamma rays outside of lead (and even lead can't stop it completely), the rays themselves pass through our bodies and destroy our DNA inside our cells. What happens is when our cells try to replicate/divide, they essentially begin a massive conflagration of cancer (depending on the amount of exposure) all over the body, not to mention it acts as an immunosuppressant. This basically means that we die from radiation due to the deadly cancers it causes from its effect. This is, of course, only if you don't literally MELT from extensive exposure.

Chernobyl just makes me sad.

I wish I didn't know about this. It is a 20 year old event don't feel bad for not knowing all history...unless you are Russian then shame on you.
