this has nothing to do with global warming its caused by charged particles getting caught in the earths magnetic field and then spiriling down at the polls, this spiriling causes the particles to heat up creating the light. is the whole earth was in a ice age then that doesnt mean that the lights would be everywhere, they would still be at the polls and the only reason they will move is because the earths polls switch every couple of thousand years.

FYI: you dont have to be at the polls to see this phenominom im close to the 45 parrellel and i see them all the time
