The Boy With The Incredible Brain

Full documentary about Daniel Tammet, an autistic savant who has been diagnosed with synesthesia, where his brain interprets numbers as shapes. This ability allows him to do complex mathematical computations in his head, like solving pi to the 22,500 decimal point. He's also adept at languages speaking more than nine, and able to learn a new one within one week. Though others have similar abilities, what sets Daniel apart is that unlike most autistic savants he does not seem to suffer from disabilities common among other autistic people.

That was so fucking intense....beyond words. It opens up new worlds, new senses of being. To think that we are capible of such beautiful, amazing things in a time with so much fucking hate is beautiful to me.

He doesn't calculate pi, he recites it. Go look him up in Wikipedia(or the 60 Minutes special about him where he explains getting pi printed out so he can go about his process of memorizing it) . He's impressive, but mostly with his memory. There are lots of other mental calculators out there that would blow Daniel away. Go check out Alexis Lemaire. That dude calculated the 13th root of a hundred digit number in under 4 seconds. The 37 to the power of four question that was asked to Daniel in this documentary is easy enough that I could do it in my head (although I take about ten times as long a Daniel, but I am still very much a novice mental calculator). You can train yourself(yes, you) to do those kind of calculations in your head(you just have to care about it enough to do so). Also, Akira Haraguchi recited pi to 100,000 digits (more than 4 times the number of digits as Daniel). I saw this documentary about a year ago and it got me interested in researching people with phenomenal abilities(many of whom trained themselves rather than being born that way). I'm a bit skeptical about Daniel's explanation of how he does what he does. He easily has a good enough memory to bullshit his explanations and not get lies mixed up. It's cool and all if he's telling the truth, but I don't like that it gives people the impression that these are abilities that are beyond them. Your brain is capable of all those tricks if given the proper training. I'm not so sure about learning Icelandic in a week, though. That's pretty heavy. I've heard of other people who knew a hell of a lot of languages, but I have no idea how long it took them to learn those languages. It's probably easier to learn a new language after having already learned a few (your brain would develop a more intuitive understanding of syntax) and if your memory were absurdly good then the vocabulary wouldn't be so bad. Anyway, yeah, impressive, blah blah blah...

wow amazing thanks so much for the upload, i loved every second. and isn't it very ironic that to him the number 6 is a very dark number, it is also considered my many to be a very evil number "666" the mark of the beast.
