The Boy With The Incredible Brain

Full documentary about Daniel Tammet, an autistic savant who has been diagnosed with synesthesia, where his brain interprets numbers as shapes. This ability allows him to do complex mathematical computations in his head, like solving pi to the 22,500 decimal point. He's also adept at languages speaking more than nine, and able to learn a new one within one week. Though others have similar abilities, what sets Daniel apart is that unlike most autistic savants he does not seem to suffer from disabilities common among other autistic people.

they are wasting his abilities by asking him to recite pi and crap like that . they should get him to do some real science and maybe find pi's patter or something.

the language thing reminds me of antonio banderas in 13th warrior. but anyways, :O there was this substitute teacher in my hs and he talks like a child and knows quite a few languages. people used to make fun of him in class and never took him seriously, he never got mad no matter how out of control the class got. maybe he's got a similar skill???

maybe this guy is the future of humanity? somehow subconsciously using different parts of the brain at the same time

@ twowolves
Naming the note when you hear it is not really that special. Though the average person can't do it, it is a skill that can be learned. A lot of musicians have this skill and some people are born with it (Steve Vai was born with perfect pitch).

I watched about 5 minutes. There are more people that can do this. He is not alone. It is cool to have a huge memory. But see, when he had to divide 13 by 79 he said he could do it up to about a 100 digits. If he was smart enough he should have realized that the digits of that division repeat after 79 times, so he should be able to do it indefinitely.

I got interested in this clip because of the claim that he could solve pi up to 22500 digits. That would be really incredible. But turns out he just memorizes the numbers. Which is the equivalent of for instance running the 100 meters within 10 seconds. Don't make a world wonder out of the guy. He is one of the masters of his (mental) discipline. He is as special as any world class athlete. Which is of course kinda special
