It's kind of worrying that parents teach their babies this kind of uselesness. Kids have very hungry brains and are willing to learn pretty much anything their parents will get a kick of. Learn them letters and numbers. Teach them to combine them.
Former presidents will never affect their living. The very knowledge of their name is useless. Letters and numbers will hunt them forever and ever untill the day they die. Dead people won't.

When we are born (unless there is some kind of mental problem) we have an IQ of around 200, and we slowly go losing it as time goes by, according to how much we exercise our intelligence. That is why teaching kids to read and play at a VERY early age, will usually yield smarter attitudes later in life.
