Original RoboCop Trailer

The 1987 Classic RoboCop. Perhaps the grittiest late 80's film. What could have read like a horrible Inspector Gadget spin-off set the standard for dystopia's to come.

This movie got an X rating before they had to tone it down for theatres. The "Criterion" Edition is the only uncut version out there for fans. Good stuff.

^^ I think they should have made a few less, actually. RoboCop 2 was bad, while RoboCop 3 was pretty good (if memory serves). The TV series was a travesty by all accounts and the Low-B films didn't even make a blip on the scope.

Another very well made 80's movie. And to think there weren't any CG scenes in this movie at all. The ED-209 scenes were done using two methods, stop motion animation and claymation.

Most know what claymations are, as for stop motion animation, it was done using a full sized model of the unit and was moved ever so slightly for each frame, to get it's movements. This was done in the scene in the OCP tower when Kenny got killed by ED-209. The real sized version of ED-209 is 8 feet tall.

I don't get it. They used Terminator music for the Robocop trailer?

Yeah, sometimes when they are still putting the film together, and do not have an official soundtrack yet, they will use a piece of established music that seems to fit the theme to put out a trailer to get people hyped. I hear the theme from "Dragonheart" in many trailers, for example.
RoboCop was great, 2 was iffy, 3 blew. The sequels and TV efforts all had potential, but wasted it with bad scripts and compromises to try to bring the stories to the lowest common denominator.

Interestingly i saw a really cheesy staight to video crap B movie sci fi fill called 'Exterminator' where a guy had a human top half and tank track legs.
Later i saw the big cardboard cut out of Robocop in my local cinema in Boston and thought it must be crap like the video.
Well it's good to go into any movie with low expectations. As soon as I saw the ED 209 reaming 50cal rounds into that dead suits chest i knew i was in for a great frikkin movie.
Robo 2 was a re hash. 3 Was a kiddie romp. Robo cop is an example of a great movie that comes out of nowhere and can't be re done on purpose. Scenes from it stick in the mind for the rest of your life. Just the other day i was taking a piss and Clarence's line "Cops don't like me, and iiiii don't like cops" popped into my head. That's 20 years after seeing it. I don't think i ever thought about movies such as 'The Rock', 'Armageddon' or Gladiator half an hour after I finished watching them.
