Revolutionary Active Suspension System

It's in French but you can clearly see how effective Bose's new active suspension is. Instead of using buffers and springs, this prototype is simply using magnets. That means that as soon as the car "feels" a bump, the wheel lifts itself to avoid it and when the car turns or brakes, the suspension remains completely stiff, giving remarkable handling.

I forgot to say: The jumping car at the end is just for technical demonstration. They won't commercialize suspensions that jumps.

And it's not magnets but solenoids.

They say that this system may be in production cars in 4 years.

That was freaking awsome. Yea the french is not so cool but the suspensions totally brings the awsomeness meter way up. The jumping was cool but the leaning into the turns I think was the most impressive.

Looks just like a slightly improved Mercedes-Benz invention called Active Body Control(ABC), which is out on the market for maybe 8 or more years now.

A french language film. Filmed in Boston USA, I believe Bose is an American Company. The product is good.

okey, what's the point of not comwercializing jump-suspentions?... it's a friggin' gold mine!... who won't buy stuff like that? who???... oh, one more thing: they have to make it illegal for women to buy them, somehow, somewhere, sometime, a woman will find a way to turn these safety mechanisms into a weapon of mass destruction...

i'm sure the computergeeks will hack the system and make random cars configured with this system jump on will.. hehe.. Imagine you standing at a trafficlight pressing a button...all cars jumping around you on the tunes to your speakers .. hehehehe

Feeling the road will be the real trick, they will have to program in some feel or feedback to the system much like they do for the steer by wire systems, they are not mechanically connected to a steering component, yet it gives you feedback.

Suspension systems that allow cars to jump over speed bumps and other obstacles...you seriously think it will be successful in North America? While it has it's obvious benefits, unless you're into high preformance racing or off-roading, it's really not a necessity. The concept has been around for years no doubt, and admittedly the solenoid apparatus is a novel idea, but I think it's really nothing to get all excited about. You have automated hydraulic suspension systems that can do the same shit.

"Revolutionary"...ha...and what we watched really is a corporate advert, so of course you're going to see their product achieve excellence. I question the mogul bump test they used, too...they could of loosened the suspension and asked the drivers to sway back and forth like idiots to exacerbate things.

That prototype is at least a couple years ago, and magnetic suspensions are nothing new, this just takes it to the next level. There are a number of cars on the road now with magnetically adjustable dampening, though they still use springs.

thats pretty amazing. ive worked with electromagnetism for a long time, but never seen a system as nicely streamlined as this. it'll be nice to see the competition that springs from this
people really have to stop ragging on these engineers for being french. there are hundreds of engineering corporations here in the US that contract with french companies for expertise...especially Dassault and Potez...yeah i agree the french can be assholes to us in some respects, but talent is talent

@valhallas_end - The engineers aren't French, the commentry said that the development was a cooperation between Bose and MIT.. If you listen to the commentry you'll realise the interviews are English dubbed to French, I live in Switzerland and this is the kind of thing you see on TV all the time.. It's very confusing because I can't concentrate on one language or the other despite being fluent in both.

I've never seen a Renault that I'd actually want to buy, but I'm married to a French woman, so at least one piece of fine engineering has been exported from France! :-)
