Maybe not historically accurate, but pretty cool that it actually worked. Unlike the attempt on mythbusters . . . but then again, mythbusters do have Kari Byron, and I'd stick my ramrod in her cannon anytime.

Archimedes .. is the man .. when the roman soldier cracked open his skull the world lost soooooo much .. some of the only writings of his were sold for over 2 million a few years ago .. & they were in the form of a dismantled prayer book .. a monk had erased his writings & chopped up the sheets of parchment .. wrote trendy prayers on them & sold it for a pittance ..

Using solder on a large scale not going to work too. Heck mythbusters way worked on the small scale but on the large scale didnt.
All so,getting it to fire doesn't really mean it works. The reload time for this is still much to long to be of any good.
good upload 4-5

What would be the equivalent of a sealed canister in Archimedes time?

Archimedes lived around 200 BC, the first idea of a cannon came about around 1100 AD, I think that is pretty damn impressive. And what would it matter if the projectile exploded or not? Original cannon balls were simply that, balls. No explosions, no nothing. If this had actually been built and Archimedes hadn't died when he did I imagine we would be a lot farther along in technology than we are today.
