He is very good, especially because it is pretty hard to tap on an accoustic and get a good clean sound.

But mentally its like playing a piano, so it doesn't take as much concentration as you would think. In fact, he probably isn't thinking at all, he just does it.

Vizreel there are many people that have surpassed Michael Angelo Batio. While Steve Vai is my favourite guitarist I'd also have to say that there are plenty of others that even surpass him.

Superhuman chops is a means to an end. Vai, Fripp and Holdsworth, have not only mastered when and what to play at speed, but when NOT to play, which is often just as expressive and magical.

the only reason michael angelo's might be faster than malmsteen is because the majority of what angelo plays barely strays from chromatic scale runs. if ur tryin to play fast play chromaticaly and of course your going to look super fast. use a little creativity and actually create music and of course your not going to be as fast, because your actually doing something, like yngwie. and just because vai doesnt showcase his speed as often as a lot of these other guys doesnt mean he cant play as fast or exceed them. which i know he does.

I agree with tomwaitsfornoone, and Milkshakes. Of course it's not easy. But any one with a motive can write a song however they want. Music is endless, especially through the varieties of instrumentation and vocals.

The whole guitar tapping thing. Yeah it's true, it is kind of hard to get a good clean sound out of but of course with Acoustic guitar pickups, it should be a breeze.

I'd be more impressed if that tambourine were being played with his feet instead of a drum machine or whatever.

One time my band played with this dude from milwaukee called trim tram )i think), and he played the drums with his feet (2 pedals attached to a snare and a bass drum), the keyboard and guitar with his hands, and sang. He sounded like devo or something, but was all live and one person. Pretty damned cool shit.

But you should check out some of the stuff deon by the master drummers- where the are playing 4 different patterns in 4 different time signatures, sometimes more- with each of their limbs. I saw a video of this guy one time who had 2 different rhythms for each of his feet- his left foot was on cowbell and hihat (alternating heel and toe) and his right foot was on bass drum and a wood block (alternating heel and toe), and of course he was doing all kinds of intricate shit with his hands. He sounded like a percussion ensemble but it was just one dude. I can't remember his name (which is sad- what does it take to impress me?) but he was japanese and I think his name was akiro or akira or something.

Anyway, this dude here was ok, but not incredibly impressive. You all should get out more.

Yeah not incredibly impressive, any guitarist could pull that off with some practice. Tapping on acoustics sounds like shit anyway.

yeah, actually that wasn't that great, just like milkshakes said. Not even great when you think that he mostly just beated the other guitar that was tuned to a ready major, and then he tapped the other guitar, must have taken many many shots (or then he played every part separately)

i love how all these guys are railing on this guitarists talent, while its almost assured none of them could pull off something even half as good as this
yeah anyone could do that with practice, but it takes a helluva lot of practice to get coordination for the taps at that speed even one one guitar, let alone switching between two
and harmonics are a major pain in the ass to play, especially with a pinkie finger

I know people who can do this. Believe me, it's not easy. But to write a song as good as this that utilizes those techniques is even harder. Erik Mongrain (there are a couple vids of him on hear) is the only one I can think of who uses a similar style with good songwriting.

Anybody ever heard of Stanley Jordan? He was doing this (much better too) in the 80s. It is not really much different than playing "tapping" like
Eddie Van Halen.

If you really like this song, check out Kaki King. She is an 18 or 19 year old
girl from Atlanta that plays guitar in very innovative ways.

Right hand part would be easy. He took a 12 string guitar and (probably) tuned it so he could do an open strum and still get a good sound. The left hand part... would be hard. Very. Taps are normally very hard on an acoustic guitar, but it looks like this guitar had pickups like an electric either added just for this, or built in. Either way it probably makes tapping a lot easier, but harmonics, the hardest part, would still be just as hard. And switching between guitars, that's just insane. 5/5

EDIT: also to all the dumbshits out there talking about why this guy uses two guitars, its obvious. there's more harmony with two guitars since they overlap and make more interesting to hear, which is why most bands that utilize more than one guitarist are infinately better than the ones who dont. there's just some things one guitar wont do.
