15/05/2000 at Enschede in the Netherlands. A fire at a fireworks factory causes mass destruction, the cameraman gets flattened by the blast.

BTW: That factory was placed in the middle of an residential area, while most inhabitants of the town never even knew it was there.
I don't know if the cameraman survived, but I do know many firefighters and some locals lost their life when the factory went up...

lol it was a "loose loose" situation, cause the factory got charged for carrying more explosives than they where licenced to, and the man who lit the fire was
scentenced for life or sumthing cause i remember seing this on Discovery channel (the whole documentry) . Fragments of building parts and unused firecrackers can still be found around the area to this day.
Moral of the story/...... dont fuck with fire, cause you never know when its your turn to burn.

@ Mental-- the camerman did survive, but i belive they found him very badley hurt. Him and other residents where awarded for their courage and bravery with golden badges.

Yeah, the owners fled the country. Don't know how all that went down. There's a lot of controversy about who did it. People aren't sure today.

Well yeah just 15 months feels 'short', but when you face the facts the only 'major'-mistake they made was (illegally) placing two containers of fireworks outside of the fireworks-bunker...
Considering that under normal circumstances there is no reason or it is even hardly possible to lid one of these containers, that on itself is not a crime but a 'neglect' of responsibillity on side of the owners.
I guess 15 months for neglecting something is pretty much the highest punishment you can give someone because it's not a 'crime' they commited.

It sucks that there wasn't really a 'responsible person punished' - but it's just wrong to forcefully find a suspect and dump everything on them just cause it feels right and the public wants you to. In my opinion anyway.
The explosion pretty much could match any conventional bomb - the explosion smashed the concrete floor underneath it 2 meters into the ground and there is now a tiny little lake in the crater that it formed.
