Kimbo v. Sean 'the Cannon' Gannon

In September 2003 Kimbo was challenged to a fight by Sean Gannon, a Boston police officer who trains in MMA. The fight was held in an enclosed padded room, and both fighters had a full entourage in attendance. The rules agreed upon by both fighters are somewhat controversial. The exact rules are unknown, but it appears that kicking was not allowed, and neither were ground submissions. Gannon's supporters allege that since the rules stated "no strikes with the foot or shin, and no ground submissions", it was within the rules for Gannon to use his knees against Kimbo and to attempt standing submissions.

Kimbo and Gannon exchanged punches for a while, then after sustaining a punch combination, Kimbo grabbed Gannon's midsection, at which point Gannon caught Kimbo in a guillotine choke. Kimbo's entourage began to protest loudly that Gannon was violating the rules of the fight. They then attempted to release Kimbo from Gannon's choke. Gannon's entourage then began to protest the interference, and blocked the camera. Fans of Gannon allege that had Kimbo's supporters not interfered, the fight could have ended at this point with Kimbo being choked out. As a result of the interference, Gannon eventually released Kimbo and Kimbo threw Gannon to the ground and began to pummel him (See 'Ground and Pound' MMA technique). Gannon escaped, and was able to stand back up. Soon after, Gannon caught Kimbo in another choke, and Kimbo's entourage protested again. Later, after more stand-up fighting, Gannon held Kimbo's head down and delivered a few knees to Kimbo's face. This resulted in more protesting by Kimbo's supporters. Both fighters appear exhausted by this point, and Gannon managed to knock Kimbo down three times, each time with a barrage of punches. Gannon's supporters counted off the number of seconds that Kimbo stayed on the ground each time. The fight was to end on a 30 count. In any case, Kimbo was eventually unable to continue, and Gannon was declared the winner. Still, some in Kimbo's camp feel the victory was won under dubious circumstances while most MMA fans feel Kimbo introduced the initial grappling and his entourage stopped multiple stoppages in Gannon's favor.

A video of the fight was made available on the Internet. Due to the popularity of the video, the UFC signed Gannon. He made his debut at UFC 55 on October 7, 2005, where Branden Lee Hinkle defeated him by technical knockout due to strikes. Despite rumors, participating in the underground fight with Kimbo did not cost Gannon his job at the Boston police department, where he continues to work full-time

about 4:30 into it kimbo loses his steam, you can see hit punches arent hitting as hard and thats when he started getting wobbly. after that it was just downhill for him.

depending on what they agreed on i think kimbo's crew is right to step in when the dude was kneeing him.

it was a fairly good fight, at least up till where kimbo basicly lost (it just took him 6 more min to realize it). altho gannon looked a bit fucked up to.

what kind of money do these dude make doing underground fights? they cant be doing it for free

KIMBO SLICE IS A TRUE BADASS he has two other fights floating on the web one in a lot of a boat yard where he shatters the nose of the (RASTAMANN) the other in the backyard of a house, the guys EYE WAS HANGING HALF OUT ! These are the only three known. Rumor has him to be training to enter MMA maybe U.F.C. ? Can`t wait to see those fights ! AS OF 12/7 RUMOR HAS IT THEY HAVE TWO MORE FIGHT VIDS FLOATING AROUND.

Kimbo doesn't have any aerobic base. He relies on straight brawling to knock people out quick. Yeah he is powerful in the begining of fights, but once he goes against someone who has trained a little bit, something like this happens and he gets pommelhorsed.

Kimbo is good for a 3 min fight, after that, like in this fight they get gassed. Just like Gannon lost in the UFC, Kimbo would get owned anywhere...

Well at least quality fighters like Lidell vs Ortiz, and Arlofsky will fight later this month.

I don't get the whole idea with Kimbo.

He's a big black guy who had a hard life, yes - who had to fight for what he has now, yes.

But he's not an MMA fighter - he's a street fighter, a brawler (as Dsilb said).

Gannon is an MMA fighter, he doesn't just rely on punches, he wrestles, he knees, he uses all different kinds of techniques.

The only people I've ever seen Kimbo fight were idiots who thought they had something to prove - and get knocked out.

You put any experienced fighter against Kimbo, he'll go down everytime. He may have the knockout power to take out an amateur - but if its a professional fighter (whether its small-time or big-time), they'll be able to take what he dishes.

Kimbo and Gannon are both technically horrible fighters. Kimbo would just get destroyed in an mma fight and Gannon even though he has training is also very unimpressive. He got a fight in the UFC because of this fight and lost by strikes to a C level fighter

It was a good fight just because kimbo got beaten, but holy shit gannon has some fucking STAMINA, did you see his face at 8:35? if my face was that fucked i'd be passed out on the ground. Major props to both fighters.
