yes, deer are fast enough to move when they hear the sound of the bow releasing the arrow, this is not all that uncommon. The shot was near perfect, just a lucky/quick deer.

He made the mistake of shooting while the deer was at full attention. The deer knew something wasn't right (she was looking straight at the camera), and there is not much with a faster reaction time than a deer on alert. Had he let her go back to grazing, he would have had a better opportunity.

Now that is a little more fair. What we need to do is give the deers guns so they can fight back! THEN it can be called a sport! Then we could revere hunters as the Gladiators of our species! That would be AWESOME!
