I couldnt say for sure if this apology is genuine, but at least he didnt try to justify it or say he was "Intoxicated" or any of that. He seems to realize what he said was some crazy and uncalled for shit and he really looks like hes regreting it right now. Which is a step in the right direction, hes a good comedian, and id hate for him to only be remembered as the crazy guy from seinfeld who lost it and flipped out one day...

I feel bad for the guy. He goes out on stage to entertain and do his job and people ridicule him. It must be difficult to have to endure people being assholes during your act. He shouldn't have said what he said and he should have handled it differently. But as we all know we've said things in the past that we regret. From my experiance everybody originally thinks they are better then another race. Its only natural that something like this will come through when you loose your temper. I am all too familiar with the situation, I have gotten into a rage and have said things too which have destroyed my relationships in the past. We shouldnt look apon this as being "I will never respect this guy again". We should look at it from the perspective of a parent and just say "I still love you but im very dissapointed in you". To people saying he's acting or whatever, come on. If he could act this torn up he'd have done alot more than seinfeld and comedy gigs.

He even says in his Letterman apology, that he's still trying to come to grips with this, he's trying to figure out why he said it and all that, and that if anything he's aleast somewhat happy that everyone, not just the black community, is upset about this.

But also, no one seems to care that this all started because some idiots saw a comedy show as thier chance to show how funny they are by heckling and talking during the show. It's a line of work, and I'm sure most of you wouldn't like it if people came to your place of work and started lipping off to you, distracting you, and heckling you. If it happend enough you'd probably blow up and target that last people that did it here.

And to those that say cracker isn't as bad and is justified. Shut it. If you want racism to be eliminated you can't have provisions for certain races, because that in itself is racism, and a double standard. You don't want people calling you a nigger, spick, chink, cracker, honky, mud race, whatever, don't use any of those terms even when referring to yourself or others, because all it does is start to dilute the hate in the words to the point where people will just start saying it.

Dwelling on it doesn't help. This happens daily, and is only getting attention because of who said it. To single him out as the one and only racist and such a bad man is ridiculous, you have to remember he's not the only person doing this.

Big ups to him though for trying to do a show like that under those circumstances. He was slow in his delivery because he didn't want to say anything that could turned on him and continue this thing.

What is the definition of a racist? It's such a broad term, I'm not sure I know what people mean by it. I always assumed a racist was someone who genuinely thought people of different race were inferior, hence black people couldn't be racist no matter how many "cracker" jokes they make, because they don't believe white people are inferior. So my question is, how many people out there REALLY believe black people are inferior to white people anymore, and is Richards someone who really believes that? I have to agree... the "N-word" doesn't really have the same meaning as it did 50+ years ago. In fact, it's a popular word in the black community, so obviously they don't mind it. The thing for me is that even witht the most sincere apology in the world, those thoughts were still there, in his head.
I can see how he has been heckled by a black person who he doesn't know personally and tried to hit him with the only thing he knows will hurt...the 'N' word. Although it's disgustingly racist and never justifiable, I could believe it was a heat of the moment thing.

The difference with Kramer and Mel Gibson is that Mr Gibson actually believes what he said and has genuine anti semitic believes. However, the way that I interpreted Kramer's outburst is a little different. First and foremost, if you've never been to a comedy set, let me tell you something from someone who has watched many comedians. Heckling is damn-near tradition in comedy. Your lucky if you leave your routine without one person trying to press you. I've witnessed comics respond to hecklers by joining in and making fun of themself WITH the heckler. I've also seen some look directly at the heckler and continue the act. Others might get silent and lose their cool but I have never witnessed anything to this degree. No one is supporting heckling, but it's like booing at a sporting event,

The hecklers didn't call Michael Richards a "cracker a** mother******" until after he said the N word multiple times. Heck, if I were white and were calling black people by the N word and they respond with "cracker" I would laugh because it really is no competition. The N word hurts more than you think.

The defences stating "black people use the N word all the time" and "black people love calling white people crackers" are about as ignorant as it can get. I am black and I hate the N word, it is an ugly word. I also have plenty of white friends who I would never try to insult. I can also tell you that there are many others just like me.

Michael Richards didn't treat those men as men, but degraded an entire race just because of what a couple men did. I know, if you aren't black it will be seen very differently, and I'm not trying to ask for sympathy, just for people to realize. Imagine this, change the race of the heckler and what do you have? If the man is the same race as you, you can't really do that (unless you hate your own race). Just because a man is a different race than you, something that never had to be racial in the first place is going to be? No matter what race a man is, approach him as that, a man. If he felt like swearing, go ahead, call him a mother******, whatever, but when you start going on about having them upside down with a fork in their a**, that is too far.

My real point is:

People may take my comments to offense and give me frowning faces, negative points or whatever, but just take in mind that (I've said this countless times) a man should be addressed as a man. If you have a problem/issue with me, it is with me, not my race.

But you know what, acknowledgement is the first step. Kramer said what he did was wrong and manned up to it.

Also, kudos and much respect to anyone who notices and reads my entire comment. It'll probably be on the 9th/10th page and it might be big.

I'm almost certain that every single one of you guys that says that this is fake have never even been in front of a live audience, let alone by yourself, OR being heckled by said audience. And if you would do exactly what Michael Richards has done, you are truely a weak individual. If you get so mad at a heckler so as to make it personal and swear at him and degrade his character, do so. (Even though I don't condone it.) But just do it as man-to-man, if your angry at a man, your angry at a man, not an entire race.

There are people who have have a bad experience with one black person and take it out on an entire race, which is what Micheal Richards did with the two men who heckled him. Their race should of had nothing to do with it.

^^^^You obviously have never been angry before otherwise you would understand that people say things they don't mean when they get angry. You also probably don't know that those hecklers were screwing with his act for longer than you think. Any person would get extremely pissed if someone was fucking with them while they are working and would say the nastiest things they could think of (unless they are very passive).

So no, I am not a weak individual, I haven't been pushed that far yet. I also feel bad for Richards because he was put in that horrible situation. It just happened to be black people so he called them niggers. He would of said other things depending on who the assholes were.

Also, I never assumed all black people like the term "nigger" but they're the only ones that use it in their vocabulary as a common word (not all black people of course). But the ones that do use it probably get it by watching black comedians that use the word 10 times in a sentence.

I am a very rational person and the way I know how this happened is by putting my self in Richards' shoes. If you just do that you would understand.

Actually, you don't hear the hecklers in the beginning, just Richards going off, so you have no idea as to what they were saying to him.
