Kramer vs. Kramer

Michael Richards, better known as Kramer on Seinfeld totally lost it during a performance at Los Angeles’s Laugh Factory on Friday night. He has since apologized for his racial outburst on Letterman. This clip includes footage from his outburst as reported on Keith Olbermann's Countdown, followed by the Letterman segment.

I think saying N**** is stupid, it's just a word for fucks sakes, I don't think he should've said the -50yrs ago- line but christ! do we have to take such offense at a single WORD?? why not take offense at and actual action or political stand on something, A WORD throws some of us off the hook? that sounds like the fanatical muslims blowing up a building because -oh no!- someone made a joke about their prophet. I think we should be worried about events that hurt people BEFORE we worry about simple fucking *bad words*. I understand it's a negative reference, why get so worked up about a negative reference? I'm sure most of us have been called an 'asshole' at one time or another, is it SO bad we've gotta make a huge deal about it? Ugh, people should just move on to IMPORTANT things, segrigation=importand descrimination=important, a 'bad word'? fuck, we still have problems with segregation and descrimination and we're going to worry about a single WORD?? sounds ridiculus to me.

It's an insult yes, same as "asshole". The word nigger has no power to it if you as a black person dont give it any. meaning you ignore it. Its a word and same as any other negative word but by reacting to it you give it power.

I've looked at other sources and no where does it say he apologized prior to this letterman statement. Infact, Laugh Factory banned him for not apologizing. Evidence directly conflict with his statement that he tried to apologize. If he has to lie during an apology, I can't say I think he is being sincere.

I have to agree... the "N-word" doesn't really have the same meaning as it did 50+ years ago. In fact, it's a popular word in the black community, so obviously they don't mind it. While I think the "N-word" isn't so bad, the reference to lynching was in horribly bad taste, and definitely inexcusable.

You can't possibly say you're offended by the "N-word," simply because it's being said by a white person. When the guy shouts and calls him a cracker in the original video, no one was offended. I'm offended, because no white people in the US own slaves, and it's ignorant to assume that, just because you're white, you or anyone in your ancestry ever owned a slave. The fact that they blur the "N-word" but not cracker kinda bothers me. Some racial epithets are acceptable while others are not? Who's racist now?

I don't think Richards is really sorry, though... he calls them "Afro-Americans." He definitely has some issues.

The thing for me is that even witht the most sincere apology in the world, those thoughts were still there, in his head.
I can see how he has been heckled by a black person who he doesn't know personally and tried to hit him with the only thing he knows will hurt...the 'N' word. Although it's disgustingly racist and never justifiable, I could believe it was a heat of the moment thing.
But the comment about being "hung upside down with a pitchfork..." doesn't seem like a spur of the moment thing. To me it seems like he's thought about it before.
It's time we moved things forward and I'm glad his racially offensive comments have been met with such fierce criticism!

It amazes me how people around the world must group themselves together and call themselves a "culture". It's seems to be such an inherent need in humanity. Black people of America have such an interesting history and their culture was basically created from nothing. Well, I guess slavery pretty much bands you together. You don't see too many black people still worshiping the sun like their ancestors in Africa. Oh wait, the European imperialists brought THEIR religion to Africa.
