FYE Gets Caught Trying to Pull a Fast On...

In June, this gamer pre-ordered his Nintendo Wii from electronics retailer FYE. All seemed in good order, until time came to get his console. FYE refused to sell him the unit unless he purchased two additional games and a $25 gift card. These additional purchases, to the sum of $400, were not disclosed when filed the pre-order in any way.

When Best Buy did this with the 360 (in some stores, the one I work at actually did not force bundles), 53 General managers, 41 sales managers, 32 District managers, 17 regional directors, and 3 corporate VPs got shitcanned.

Work in retail long enough and you will find that the custmer is frequently wrong. In most instances, the customer has no clue what the Hell they're looking for, and often has to rely on the assistance of employees at the store to find what they need. They may not always show this, because hey, who hates to be wrong?

There are the instances that the customer knows what they want but cannot find it. I've seen people who will wander around aimlessly, looking for the item they want, yet refuse help. This happens on a lesser basis than the first type of people.

Then there are the people who know exactly what they're looking for and exactly where it is. With these people, it's best to let them be. Being polite to all three groups is a mandatory.

yeh eb rocks..well place i went to anyways..i bought an xbox of them..but it was one of the earlier ones..and it kinda blew up..so they replaced it to me no questions asked..what they didnt know was that my sister tripped over the cord and the xbox went flying..so yeh shhh...

I'm quite surprised at this FYE's customer service style. I work at Asda's (a subsidiery of Wal-Mart) and we've got a £1000 annual value on each customer to represent what happens if you insult a customer enough to cause them to stop shopping there, but also the fact that nearby customers who hear and see any verbal exchanges of the sort will more than likely stop spending their money there, and all of those people will tell friends of their experience, the whole "tell two friends, they'll tell two friends" thing.

In the end, insulting just one customer is normally enough to lose a lot of money to the store thanks to a bad reputation, which is why in any retail business, employees are typically told to be friendly. Simple, really.

Well anywayz its good that you got your message out. But I think it wont take too long to get a Wii, proberly a few weeks ill say max 2-2 month hold on man. Its a wii not a ps3 ;)
