I think Stewart is more left wing than right. Do I think he is a full fledged Democrat? No. He, like myself, sees huge problems with both parties.
My guess is that, like me, he sees the Dems as the lesser of two evils.

Of course they have an huge influence on young voters. The only reason why they talk about such topic is to spin the reasons why young voters come on numbers.
But does it matter? NOPE!! How about news start to talk about real informative stuffs instead of this kind of news? Go check news in other country and you will found out that American news are so different. In France/Canada, I am used to heard at least a dozen number with explication... kind of like when Ron Paul or an economist talk. In here, news are like a soap opera: Always about feelings not much substance.
