BARMY bosses at a prison for sex beasts are doling out £4,800 in cash prizes to inmates . . . for winning bingo, quizzes and darts.
TAXPAYERS will pick up the tab for the idea — blasted by staff last night as “potty” and a “kick in the teeth” for victims.
The Prison Service will stump up £400 a month for 761-inmate Whatton Prison near Nottingham, which holds only sex offenders — including rapists and child molesters.
Governor Peter Wright wrote to staff to say: “Residential staff and prisoners will be pleased to hear that an amount of money has been made available for activities.
But an insider stormed: “The PC brigade has finally gone mad. This is potty. Whatton jail is full of some of the vilest prisoners in the system.
“This place is already like a bloody holiday camp, these prizes will make it even more comfortable.” The prize pot will be shared by the three wings at the jail, which holds only men on the Sex Offender Treatment Programme.
Bingo winners will get up to £2, and quiz winners £3.
The insider said: “It might not seem much, but it will buy lots in prison. There’s a shop and inmates can buy illicit goods, such as drugs.”
They went on: “This is a kick in the teeth for all the victims of these horrible men. They should be punished — not given the chance to win cash for taking part in quizzes.”
