if you look at the distance between the front wheel and steer wheel, it retracts - but not enough :(

Ya, personally I also don't think airbags are very safe when the thing holding it goes into the roof and you get a facefull shrapnel.

What is the point of this test? To see how well a car crashes into a wall?
Most accidents will be car collisions, where both are in movement.
That means stability is more important, then a structure that deforms.
