Macs are great for pro multimedia editing. If you're wanting to run the lastest games and junk...you can pretty much forget it. About the only leg up on a Win PC that I've seen is that Mac has a better interface. That will change with Vista (which is kinda slugish right now).

We just got in the RC2 of Vista and they fixed alot of sluggish issues with it. Vista is definity going to give mac a run for the money as far as interface wise and stability wise. This is the RC2 and i couldnt get the damn thing to crash if i tried.

Although I agree that Mac users are usually ignorant and stupid, they went a little overboard with the video editing here.

As for what element311 said, he's pretty much right. The Mac exceeds the PC when it comes to the majority of multimedia. It just does.

i got a mac... used to have win pc... i dont really hate pc over mac... its just that i like the interface of mac. took a while to get used to, but after a few weeks, theres a few features that really stand out. dont get me wrong, there is a hell of a lot that i CANT do on my mac, which pisses me off sometimes, but that is getting rarer. more people are opening up to macs, which means more software etc will be developed for it (hopefully)

how is mac good for multi media? if i'm gonna make a movie i will use movie maker on PC, ok tied in movies how about sound. i have DFX plug in for my windows media player, also i Downloaded i tunes. there audio takein care of. photo editing, www.torrentspy.com then go look up photoshop cs2, there that takes care of multimedia.

face it if you want a mac like OS get Linux . much better use of that type of system.

I work in a computer lab and macs consitantly freeze up here. And of course once macs freeze up you have two options. Wait, or unplug it. Thats my main beef with macs. Pcs you have a lot of ways to fix a problem.
Its pretty funny though when some girl has her slutty myspace pictures frozen on the screen for an hour or so.

Macintosh is a no less evil company than it's competitors. They make the Mac mini so hard to open that you're afraid you're going to break it. You have to open it with a paint scraper. I did it several times and it scared me to death. They do this so you have to pay money to get it sent to singapore to fix or upgrade it. That's a kick in the pants to do-it-yourselfers all just to make your life a hell of a lot more difficult and to take some more of your well-earned money.

Meanwhile I write this comment on my Mac mini.

On the other hand, Macs are just cleaner machines I feel. They give me little to no misery. Maybe I could figure out every little problem with my PC but I have a life and I don't have Nick Burns here with me to help me find out why my internet doesen't work for the fifth time. I have a dependable business machine. It never gives me a second of greif and I think it wouldn't for most people who live lives that don't revolve around their computer.

Don't buy a mac if you like computer games. It's that simple. The lack of games is no secret.

Also, just buy a two-button mouse and plug it into your mac. It will work just like on a PC. Then you can throw that useless one-button mouse away.

I found that the older macs are more efficiant as end tables, than actual computers, and the new ones(ex:Mac OSX or whatever) can be classified in the "useless junk" category, or even the "bad christmas present" category.

Macs are the homer simpson of computers, and even though they have their own stupid advantages for certain people, for me, they are just useless. Im a normal person, so I dont "design shit" or "make music" optionally in my spare time. Why would I need a Mac when I got my vastly outdated, yet more efficiant WINDOWS ME? (even though Millenium edition still kind of blows)

However, I do miss that lemonade stand game that was always on the old macs back in the elementry school days... back in a more simple time.

people who like macs are pretty much the people who don't know how to use a computer... i've been using PCs with windows all my life and i have never had a problem with it... if you know how to keep your computer clean, have a little common sense with what you download, your PC should not have any problems what-so-ever....

Macs are only virus free because there market share is so small compared to windows... i remember someone was able to hack into an apple in under 30 minutes, as in, he could do anything he wanted with your computer... Macs are not superior to PCs, Windows XP shows that, but when Vista comes it will blow macs out of business...

btw, Ipods are trash too... they break so easily...

Macs are better for multimedia stuff for PROFESSIONALS. Look at reocrding studios and video editors for movies. Most the time they are using a Mac. Honestly both OS's are good and its basically all down to which do you like more. I myself have a PC but i'm going to get a mac next year.

I remember the pre-Jobs "Switch" campaign. It was absolutely hilarious from a programmers point of view. At the time, Macs were *notoriously* unstable. Case in point, System 7.

What can you do on a Mac that you can't do on Windows? Technically, not much. You can pretty much do the same stuff, just better. Someone mentioned MS Movie Maker. Compare it to iMovie. Go ahead, just give both a chance and tell me you still prefer the Windows solution. Audio? Sure both systems can play back audio, that's a no brainer. How about making your own. Does Windows have anything to counter Garage Band?

How about working with multiple languages? I know it's not a big deal for most but I routinely work with a mix of Japanese and English text and Windows has huge problems recognizing different text encodings. It just illustrates how shoddily Windows was designed.

Probably the biggest thing for me is the display of text on screen. Despite all of the multimedia content that's available now, the most common thing most people do with their computers is still read text. Anyone who has a job where they spend hours looking at text on screen knows that it makes your eyes very tired and sore after a while. Unless you use a Mac. Windows' chunky, pixelated text is offensive to the eye. Mac's smooth fonts are more like printed text. It seems like a small thing but it's actually the most important issue in the man-machine interface.

Finally, someone mentioned Macs freezing up in a computer lab. First of all, you can only be talking about poorly maintained 6 year old OS9 machines. Nobody is talking about Windows 98, let's stay on a comparison of XP/Vista to OS X. OS X does not freeze up. If you've found a way to make it freeze up then you have managed to misconfigure your machines in some baffling way and you have only yourself to blame. And your ignorance shows when you say they must be unplugged to be restarted. Do you think a company that puts so much work into the outward design of their machines would overlook something like that? Please.

why do people start 'thread wars' on everything. this was just a video making fun of macs, because this is spiked humor remember. even though it wasn't very funny. And ya, i prefer PC because i grew up w/ them and have learned how to use them. Also because i like to play games. I do have a mac, i just don't use it as much as my PC. and for someone like me, i have used both iMovie and Movie Maker and there isn't much difference when you only use them once every 4 months. I also have Photoshop CS2 and Corel Painter instaled on both macines. The guy who said his mac labs keep crashing, my hs comp lab crashed every couple days after it was upgraded to OS X machines. I have only had to reformat my beloved VAIO once, and that was because my younger brother fugged up some hardware settings and uninstalled some vital programs, actually almost everything in the add/remove programs window. It has never actually crashed in the 2.5 years i have owned it. my mac dosnt have a 4.7 Ghz CPU clock speed either.

It's not about what you can or can't do with a PC or a MAC. It's what functions better at what task.
If you write a game and you want to port it to a mac, it's not as simple as it seems. If the game is direct x only, then you might have a tough time. If it's open gl based, you might have an easier time with porting it over. I'm sure macs have their own APIs to handle the graphics.

Since macs are geared to ONLY certain hardware, the can focus on functionality more that compatibility. Therefore, apple can tweak their hw and sw better. The OS and the hardware are 'closer' on a mac too. You don't have to jump through 3-5 files just to talk to the hardware.
Windows will jump through multiple files (sometimes) to get to the hardware for compatibility reasons.

That is why it is best to use a mac for multimedia editing.
That is why it is best to use a PC for games, ect.
Both can be used for general functions, (internet, porn, ect).

I've done the suse 10, other nuxs, Tiger x86 (had to buy a usb keyboard to get it to work), vista, ect. Just cause I've explored my options and made a choice, doesn't make me a 'fan boy', it makes me informed and educated unlike yourself mr. 'anti-fan boy'. use a mac before u jump into conclusion, u like a pc doesnt mean mac sucks. i uses pc and mac, both has thier pros and cons, and one button mouse isnt the reason u hate mac, just chnge the damn mouse!

no games is not a reason either, get Bootcamp and install windows. there u go, dual boot windows and osx.

but mac cant use itunes to convert wma to mp3, so i use pc. thats how both of them compromise.

My entire life, I have been using PC's. Every now and then I would use a Mac and go "Bah" to it.
Well that was until OSX came out. Currently I own PC's and a Mac, my Mac is definatly my main machine. The only thing that doesnt occur on this compared to my PC's is playing Counter Strike. I play Unreal and WoW on this iMac G5 perfectly well.

Why do I prefer my Mac? Simply because I don't need to care what I do to it. I don't have to worry about keyloggers, spyware, adware, virus'. I don't need to update firewalls and everything, it's just all there, waiting for me to use it doing what I need to do on it.

I have downloaded a fair few small .exe files by accident, and just felt like I dodged a bullet. Especially since I didn't have to spend hours removing what I just accidently installed, or moreso what a family member did.

Oh and the one button crap. Hmm I'm using a Logitech MX 1000 seven button mouse on this. Ha. Also, every new Mac ships with a three button scroll wheel mouse.

Macinthosh's are for retards.
They are usually twice the price of a PC, and until recently wouldn't even run Windows.
Macintosh steals the aspect of stability and security from an open source kernel (unix) and adopts it as its own. The truth is there's thousands of linux distros you can install on your PC that are even more safe and secure and supported better in the open source community.
Now that mac's use the clearly superior intel chip I wouldn't really have a problem with them except they are still twice as much as a PC.

There is absolutely NO reason, what-so-ever for anyone... for any application.. ever.. to own a mac anymore.. period.

by the way, check benchmarks and see what gets you the best cost/speed ratio. I used to be a tweaker but now I just have a mac pro that beats the shit out of comparable pc systems. so I use bootcamp and run windows ( yeah als o vista...) and OS X. now because I use 3DsMAX as a hobby I still have to go to windows but honestly OS X is much better than XP. lets just wait for the release of vista, hoping that it wont be the bloated OS that I am seeing now, it sure looks ok and they did a lot of work but performance aint all that good. oh and I use debian too so for me (and its a personal choice depending on my use for a computer) I'd say XP < Vista < Debian < OS X.
