I actually grew up near Trinity Site in Alamogordo, New Mexico. When I was in high school I did a report on the bomb and talked to some older people that lived in Alamo when it happened. There was no warning and it was done in the early hours of the morning. Trinity is roughly 30 miles from Alamo out on WSMR. The people I talked to said that the ground shaked and when they went outside to see what was going on the sky out towards Trinity Site was a blood red color for several minutes...they all knew something big just happened and it is something they have never forgotten. Twice a year you can get an escorted tour of Trinity Site...kind of funny you go out there and there is not much left you wouldnt believe the first atomic bomb was tested there if not for the radation warnings all over the place. Just some reminits of the old buildings and part of the drop tower and a big lead plate over the actual hole.

I have the entire movie entitled Trinity and Beyond: THE ATOMIC BOMB MOVIE. its almost 2hrs long and incredibly kickass. i'd love to post it but i dont know shit about posting videos

My grandfather was at the first atomic test firing at the White Sands Missile Range in NM. He said the explosion was so bright he was something like 80% blind for 2 weeks after the test. He didn't get the cool goggles like that guy had in the clip.
