Actually, the pronunciation is regional. Most people in the US use a short o and drop the l (seems americans change a lot of words just to be difficult) whereas in the UK, Australia and New Zealand for example, its pronounced with a long o and includes the l. I'd say the English are right...its their language after all. (and yes there is a U in COLOUR, and a U in MUM).
