Inspired by the artwork Schenkel produced for the fourth Zappa/Mothers of Invention album, released in 1968, titled "Cruising with Ruben & The Jets".
Since Zappa was a huge fan of Do-Wop music, it only made sense that he'd craft an album of original Do-Wop compositions done in only-Zappa arrangements and with always-hilarious lyrics. Thus were born Ruben & The Jets.
