Dosen't matter if it's legal or not,.. it's going to be done anyway. If it's illegal when someone is caught they have to be tried in court. If it's legal then they are still going to do it in secret, it's just that when someone is caught they face no legal repercussions.

Make no mistake about it, McCain just capitulated. The man who held out for years of imprisonment in Viet Cong cages, just gave in...he settled for redefining the legal definition of torture. John McCain just became an official career politician.

My dad served with John McCain on the USS Forrestal, and I'm a vet myself. I can't even begin to tell you how my dad, those that served with McCain, and many veterans and active duty military people feel that he has absolutely betrayed his values, his ideals, and those that have supported him by deciding to surrender to the Bush administration and allow them to legalize the torturing of POWs...

Good job sacrificing your principles for the party line John McCain.

darthmaximillian - I ALWAYS enjoy your comments.

Anyway, I recently watched "The Passionate Eye" here in Canada when they aired the documentary: TORTURE QUESTION

www.cbc.ca/passionateeyesunday/feature_190206.html

As always, the program was excellent. Gitmo and Abu Ghraib were/are disasters and military blunders.

But I also enjoyed these articles:

U.N. expert: Iraq Torture May Be Worse

www.thestate.com/mld/thestate/news/world/15573944.htm

Or how 'bout this gem:

The Abuse Can Continue - Senators won't authorize torture, but they won't prevent it, either.

www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/09/21/AR20060
92101647_pf.html

Don't worry flag wavers, it's from the state-approved Washington Post. Go ahead, have a read on the subject.

The whore on the panel Sandy Rios, kept claiming that "we are not talking about on-the-rack torture " so to speak. Yadda-Yadda-Yadda.
Before Gonzales became Attorney General, (a fucking tragedy in itself), he was the Presidents counsel. He went before the Supreme court to argue that allowable "interrogation techniques" for use in the "war on terror" should be defined as, and I quote. "Actions which induce physical pain up to and including, as to cause death".
These fools have got to go.
Their lies have no boundaries.
Their deceptions impose on them, no consequence.
They are chicken-hawk cowards of the worst kind.
It will take decades to repair the damage they have done.
It will take generations to deal with the future terrorists they have created.
Hunker down for the shit storm the next 5 years will bring, it isn't going to be pretty.

ROFL...

"well i'm not with you....."

That's so true. The US govt. outlook is that everyone outside the US also thinks with US perspective. That's why they don't see what's going on out there. They are too blind to recognize their own flaws.

I don't think that we should be doing things that could kill them, or leave them without their fingers, toes or teeth. I do not think that they should be exposed to electric shock or made to bleed.

I really have no trouble with water boarding, but don't believe that its necessary. What about sodium pentathol? Or is that stuff just for the movies?

What about lie detectors? I know that they are not valid in court but if people's lives are at stake and you know someone is lying then, maybe get tougher with them.

I pity these poor people, espicailly the innocent ones, but at the same time I hear about what happens to our soldiers over there when they are captured, and I am disgusted to a point where I just don't give a fuck if everyone of them dies. Sawing off people's heads, repeating raping a female soldier with broken legs, dragging soldiers to death behind cars, cutting off body parts, etc. All of these are common practices with these savages, and though it pains me to think of the innocent people who might be in those prisons, I've got to think of my people first.

First Bill Maher clip I've actually enjoyed. I was alright with some of the stuff the Bush administration was doing in Iraq and with the war on terror, but that author guy speaks truth. WTF Bush, torture aint ok, period. You were toeing the line before, thats crossing it.

if only the people on these videos took the time to see the comments posted by the fairly selective but still well represented international community on spiked humor, they might remove their heads from their own asses.

btw that clinton post was brilliant

When ethics and definitions collide there's way too much flaming and animosity that happens because people have different views and definitions of everything, someone might think torture can be defined as any act where permanent damage is applied to a person, while others may consider it any pursuit of intelligence that involves pain applied to the person.

This is the sort of stuff that gets generalized and let loose on the Internet, all the cynics and theorists hear is "america legalized torture last Tuesday" and gives a biased link to some never-before-heard news blog, bam. Everyone who hates america now redoubles their blinded hate, and those who may have sympathized now have their beliefs shaken.

Never take things at face value, ESPECIALLY IF IT'S ON THE TELEVISION. This is hte #1 cause of america hatred today, and it's not going to stop until we get a better administration and foreigners smarten up a little about what happens in both the US and their own country. As it's said, there are people with opinions, and people who make them.

But my god i can't wait for Bush to be out; this whole Presidency has only been a black mark on America.

certain situations definatly make torture alright.. i agree with johhny with stuff like that is light but still effective..and all you people that say torture should never be used, i'd like to see what you think if a situation involved where u thought torture would be effective, ie kids kidnapped or something. if someone had info on where to find your kid and the gov't started torturing them i would bet my life you wouldn't be like "oh no plz stop, it is wrong to torture blah blah".. everyone only thinks for themselves all the time and not for the greater good. but when the time comes to help themselves, they usually do whatever is necessary.
