Akira is fucking amazing, first few times I saw it were alwayse with a lot of people and we were alwayse extreamly high and often drunk. I didn't really understand it until I watched it by myself.. then we had it on in the background durring a mushroom trip, started to peak when all the really fucked up shit starts happening.. that was pretty intense.. *sigh* ah to be a teenager again..

Quick Explanation -

Tetsuo was taken by the government because a) he saw things he shoudn't and b) he was suspected of having psi abilities (which he did).

He was given large amounts of drugs that increased those abilities. He broke out, and aquired staggering amounts of the same drug (in much lower dosages).

He ODed.

akira bad ass movie, got me started on anime, that and GITS, i saw them back in 1993 when i was 6-7 years old, blew my mind back then, even though i didnt get it, put hay pretty colors. now im hardcore anime fan thanks to those 2 movies. btw i get it now.
