That was panic shooting. Even if you're a very good shooter, you can't have a clear shot shooting that fast with one hand with a normal handgun. He would've hit the guy if he took 1 second to stabilise, alling up the sights and take a good aim. But you can't really blame him for that, he just got a gun pointed at his head 2 seconds before that so it's normal that he got a little bit stressed...

Anyway, there's still have been a happy ending.
