CheeseMan, how would anyone here know if you "can" have some cheese? I am only assuming this of course, but I suspect you are capable of cutting the cheese, lifting a hunk of it to your mouth, chewing it, and swallowing it. In which case, yes, you "can" have some cheese.

Perhaps you meant to ask for one of us to give you some cheese. In that case, your grammar would have carried you a lot farther had you asked, "May I have some cheese?"; nevertheless the answer would be a resounding, no.
