OPERATION STOP THE GOVERNMENT TERRORISTS IS ON! SPREAD THE WORD!

If you fail to take action, you're partialy to blame.

I am just not sure why these news organizations are reporting on this... I mean real or not, it has nothing to do with them.

"According to the mainstream news media we were all born yesterday. Its been the end of the world for thousands of years, and when a major even unfolds suddenly its time to re-evalute the idea of the end of times.

I don't know what it is about the media but they have become so utterly pointless and useless."

And you don't think anything remarkable has happened during last 100 years? Amount of population for example? During the last 1000 years this last century has been very very very different.

I'm not saying the "apocalypse" is coming, I'm not religious but something is definately happening. Human is causing changes in nature in a scale never seen before. ALARM!

I am absolutely in awe of Team Anti-Americas seemingly unlimited knowledge of the U.S. Imagine the knowledge one can gain by sitting in front of a computer all day with a bag of cheetos and and a 2 liter bottle of Mt. Dew!

Granted, American media is biased...both ways. The New York Times and (my personal favorite) Newsweek are two of the biggest critics of the Bush administration...rivaling the BBC. Do you really believe that the BBC is without any bias....are you fucking kidding me? The only reason you see them as "unbiased" is because they are saying what you wanna hear.

Free your minds kiddies...the world can ill afford to tolerate such close mindedness.

The BBC are required by contract to remain impartial on all issues, including showing favourtism towards any particular viewpoint. If they don't follow the strict guidelines in regards to their non-entertainment programming, then public funding of the network would be cut entirely.

During their coverage of LIVE 8, the BBC producers switched to the TV presenters in the studio whenever a video asking for donations from viewers was played on the screens.

As ridiculous as it seems, the BBC couldn't show any of this footage because it falls under the contract agreement with the public which states they cannot push a particular agenda, whether charitable or political.

To compare US networks/publications owned by the likes of Time/Warner, News Corp. and General Electric to the BBC is nonsensical. Almost every news outlet in America is privately owned by a few individuals (Rupert Murdoch) or huge conglomerates. The BBC is funded from top to bottom by the British public....they own it, and employees have to show total impartiality with their reporting and to demonstrate zero bias. It's as simple as that!

I'm repeating myself, but you've probably got the gist.

Porridge...for such an unbiased network, the BBC sure does have a lot of claims of bias against them...from around the world. Repeat all you want man.

Porridge, you seem like a reasonably intelligent fellow...so I implore you to think outside the box.

NO BIAS BECAUSE THEY ARE REQUIRED BY CONTRACT....c'mon man, you're smarter than that. Who exactly decides what is "biased" and what is "fair and balanced"......ponder...for just a moment. That's a pretty fucking relevant question...no?

Say (for a moment) that certain figures do not outright criticize certain countries and/or cultures or belief systems...they still have the power to chose what stories air and which ones don't, what information makes it in to each story..and what information doesn't....and this is just playing devils advocate.

But it just so happens that the bias is far to often blatant.

BBC criticized the United States for "violating the Geneva convention" by showing pictures of everybodies favorite despot Saddam Hussein...then showed pictures of dead British soldiers against the wishes of their families.

A rather large anti-terrorism rally in Iraq. Thousands gather in the street....not even mentioned on the BBC.
One of the largest of Saddams infamous mass graves found...no mention from the BBC.
BBC denied publishing a letter calling for Bush to be hung...then later when served a heaping dish of proof pudding claimed "it must have slipped through the cracks".
The BBC war coverage has been criticized by one of their own embedded journalist in the middle east. A little controversy when that internal memo leaked out.

There is much MUCH more.....but you've probably got the gist.

So what you're saying is, the BBC lean towards the left-wing agenda and fail to provide sufficient coverage of certain events which may contradict their own particular viewpoint? Okay

During the 1980s, the BBC were accused by the left of slanted reporting which was beneficial for the Thatcher government. Today, they're constantly being attacked by large sections of the right-wing Murdoch press as a liberal organization.

All three major political parties (Labour, Conservative, Liberal) are in total agreement that the BBC aren't in any way biased and everything should be done to preserve that without the help of crass commercialism, and the only way to achieve this is through public funding, instead of corporate ownership as seen in the USA.

Say whatever you want about them...the BBC's news coverage is under contract to remain impartial on all issues. I've never seen any of their employees, whether it's the news reporters or anchors editorialize the way American newspeople do. Watch 1 hour of BBC News 24, then compare their coverage to the likes of CNN, MSNBC or FOX and you'll notice a huge difference in approach.

If the BBC violated any any of the set guidelines, there would be imminent hearings which would almost certainly result in the end of their funding.

JUST A REMINDER:

"During their coverage of LIVE 8, the BBC producers switched to the TV presenters in the studio whenever a video asking for donations from viewers was played on the screens.

As ridiculous as it seems, the BBC couldn't show any of this footage because it falls under the contract agreement with the public which states they cannot push a particular agenda, whether charitable or political."

"One of the largest of Saddams infamous mass graves found...no mention from the BBC."

Sorry, but I reckon you're talking bollocks on this one. There's no way the Beeb didn't cover the mass graves in Iraq in great detail. I distictly remember their 24 Hour channel spending at least 20 minutes every hour with their reporter examining the bones and clothing of the dead. It even dominated most of Channel 4 News evening broadcast....and they definately lean to the left with their coverage.

"A rather large anti-terrorism rally in Iraq. Thousands gather in the street....not even mentioned on the BBC."

Neither did the likes of ITV, Channel 4, ABC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, FOX NEWS and REUTERS.....What's your point?

"The BBC war coverage has been criticized by one of their own embedded journalist in the middle east. A little controversy when that internal memo leaked out"

Who was the journalist?

If the BBC are so obviously biased and have a clear political agenda, then which news outlet out there is superior in terms of accurate investigative reporting and factual programming? I genuinely want to know because whovever you've got in mind, they must be fucking amazing.

Kinda my point porridgegun...they're all biased. And no....no "bollocks" about the mass grave (one of the many)...this particular event took place in July of 2003....and there was no coverage by the BBC....none.

Porridge, we can sit here and go back and forth with whatever little tid-bits of information that we've gathered through the years (the ones that weren't smoked away anyway)....but fuck man....I don't have time for it. It's sensless bickering that will (I'm sure) at no point bring us any closer to a common understanding...and isn't that the main goal here?

Remember that Bill O'Reilly says on a fairly regular basis that he is attacked from both sides.....would you consider FOX news to be fair and balanced? I don't think either of us believe that.

My agenda Porridge is not to prove that I'm right and you're wrong...it's not to strike a blow for the conservatives (as I my self am not a conservative)...my goal is to give you another perspective. to prove that there is always more than meets the eye...especially if you don't look.

P.S. The reporters name was Paul Adams. If you want more info (quotes, ect. just ask)

"...this particular event took place in July of 2003....and there was no coverage by the BBC....none."

Yep, that's about right, and yep, it's still complete bollocks. I watched the coverage of the uncovered mass graves live on the BBC (as I did on all channels) and was kinda surprised they spent as much time as they did on the grislier aspects. It headlined the evening news (again, on all channels), and was disturbing. You could clearly make out childrens clothing among the remains. If you have definate proof the Beeb didn't feature any coverage, go ahead and put up a link....otherwise, I'm going with my lying eyes.

Sorry, but I'm 100% right on this.

I don't really need another perspective on the subject because I've already accepted most of your points, which were fairly obvious anyway. Yes, the BBC are not totally transparent in their reporting. Yes, they've failed on many occasions in the past to provide sufficient coverage of news stories and events....and YES there is always more than meets the eye. What I'm saying is that the BBC are arguably the best news organiztion in the world when it comes to televised news coverage, reporting and investigative journalism.

Despite some obvious flaws, I would take the BBC's non-entertainment programming ahead of anything currently out there. In fact, whenever I watch the likes of Newsnight with Jeremy Paxman or Panorama, it actually makes me proud to be British because I know for a fact other countries don't get this level of depth from their mainstream news outlets.

Again, If you've found a better source for the news that would give someone like me a better perspective on world events, go ahead and provide some examples....I'm genuinely curious.

Well porridge...I got just about what I expected out of you. Resorting to the good ol' "if it doesn't fit your view...it must be a lie". I tremble before the searing logic of your fiery intellect. I see you've made a new fan in Guaii...congrats.

I think you've missed the point entirely porridge. My overall contention was that putting your faith in one media results in limited growth in perspective.
Too bad they don't teach you that on the BBC.

Join the world of comon sense porridge...lord knows there is plenty of room.
