Man Finds $21K In Bonds, Gets $100 Rewar...

A homeless man searching for returnable bottles in a trash bin found 31 U.S. savings bonds worth nearly $21,000 in a bag of clothes.

Charles Moore, 59, took the bonds to a 24-hour walk-in homeless shelter, where a staffer tracked down the family of the man whose name was on the bonds.

"They belong to him," Moore told The Detroit News. "I did the right thing."

Ernest Lehto's family had given away many of his clothes shortly after his death in 2004.

How the bonds ended up in the trash bin is a mystery, but Lehto's family left Moore a $100 reward.

"What a good Samaritan," said Neil Lehto, who picked up the bonds Friday that had belonged to his late father.

I don't blame the homeless man. He technically did the right thing, and that is respectable. However, that family is ridiculous for giving 100 bucks. They should have provided him CLOTHES/FOOD/etc. plus some extra cash to get him back on his feet.

certain bonds cant be redeemed by the bearer, ie, these bonds could only be redeemed by the guy they are signed to. The homeless guy returned them yeah, good on him, but even if he had kept them, they wouldn't have done him any good.

But yeah 100$ is pretty much a slap on the face. "Hey thanks, no go get a job you bum."

People with money can be pretty fucking callous individuals sometimes. At least all rich people aren't like that though. Some of them dont let their good fortune go to their heads.

I dunno whether he could have cashed the bonds himself or not. However from the point of view of who had the greater need, in his position I would have kept them and tried to. He is homeless the family isn't, his need outweighs theirs. This is basic morality.

And the $100 reward! They may as well have asked him to kneel down and pissed in his face. Bunch of ungrateful cocksuckers. I hope he buys a hunting knife with it and slits their fucking throats.

And yet another nice gesture goes unrewarded...
This world is fucked up all right
They could at least have offered him a nice dinner apart from the 100 bucks!

Um, a typical reward would be closer to 10% of the value of what was returned. I was always tought that if someone was kind enough to return what didn't belong to them, it should be worth their time.

Just cus he was homeless doesn't mean he's not worth 10%.

Primepeng you ignorant fuck. Heres a man who scratches a living from rubbish bins and survives through the cold winters and you say $100 will change his life? FUCK YOU. A good person like that deserves atleast 1/2 of it and its people like these who need money above all others with a home.

Perhaps some one will make a website explaining his plight, take donations and get him resetup in life (I.E. clothes, food, housing, some education). That would be a nice thing...at least the internet can help explain his story.
Bunch of cheap rewardists though...100 bucks...pft. Slap in the face...
