Sorry use something other than wmv format, wmv's can carry virus's and I cannot watch them as they are wisely disabled from play on my machine.

Antivirus? I don't run one of those, why would I want to turn my good machine into a 486 :}. Hell windows for when I play games does that by itself it doesn't need help with more crap programs. Second everyone on the net doesn't have virus's. Especially if your not a retard and download/swollow everything Microsoft throws at you. All microsoft shitty formats (in this case WMV) and lots of other shit are the root cause for spyware/adware and virus's. Those morons that sit back and shrug and go fuck'it I use ad-aware and spybot I'm awsome suck. Yes those programs are really good, however if you just took some care and weren't a lazy moron you wouldn't need to run them. I run them once a year or so usually before I restore a backup, or do a fresh install just for giggles, I get 'tracking cookie matches all over' (who carez), and not very often anything else. Of course I don't use IE, and I don't use MS media player, and I don't run 'strange exe's' or play wmv files (wmv files are the same btw as running strange exe's).

There is no such thing as a virus free file type. You don't know as much about viruses as you think you do. Any file type can contain a virus. If you use the internet then you are vunerable to viruses. If you are on a network then you are vunerable. If you use any data input device (eg. CD drive) then you are vunerable. The best possible defence to use against viruses is to be careful in what you open/access AND an anti-virus program.

The most common form of virus are document viruses and they can hide in any formatted document. Your computer can also become infected with a virus hiding in an image. Any image can hold a virus, like my avatar for example ;P Without anti-virus software how can you protect your machine from that?
