the crappy thing is that this is actually likely to happen either you want it or not.. eventhough they don't control the internet(s), they do in fact control the speed of the internet(s). and if they wanna limit the speed you get from jizzbusters.com, they do that.. or if they wanna decide to actually just totally block out all torrent sites known to man.. they do that too.. so glad i live elsewhere

^ They can not and will not controll something as important as the internet. There are hundreds of millions that will rise to the threat.

You can ignore a few, but you can not ignore the voice of the world.

Uh, he actually is talking about bandwidth when he refers to the tubes guys. I couldn't laugh at this because John Stewert obviously didn't realize this and so he just looked like a jackass the entire time. The "old fart" had the right idea in his arguement though. When people are busy downloading movies etc. it clogs up the bandwidth (it doesn't effect it much though unless you're on 56k lol) and makes other services slower. New technoligies aren't really affected by it. But still this forms the basis of the net nuetrality bill. The old guy knew what he was talking about, John Stewert thought he did, but he thinks the internet is just imaginitive electronics. The tubes = wires.

"When McCain runs for president, he is so getting my vote because he will definitely get shit together and on the right track. Our troops will be out of Iraq and things will finally go back to normal. McCain is the man, plus he is good friends with Jon Stewart, so we all know who he is voting for.

Vote McCain. He'll get the shit back on track."

Post-midterm election defeats for Republicans, where the majority of voters said that the 5 year quagmire in Iraq was the deciding factor in how they voted, John McCain is currently over in Iraq with Joe Lieberman calling for an additional 40k Troops to be deployed, sharpish. He's the Neocons #1 candidate for '08, so you know what that means... and he recently licked the ring of evangelical nutball Jerry Falwell, despite what he said about him during the 2000 Primaries.

Also, without even wanting to, Jon Stewart pretty much exposed the weasal bastard during his last appearance on the show. You could clearly see the disappointment on Stewart's face when McCain started flapping around, dodging the questions. Plus, he recently in voted to legalize torture following months of campaigning against it.

No fucking way Stewart is voting for that prick. I'd bet my bollocks on it!

Ted Stevens sort of had the right idea, but it's a bad analogy. Yes the internet is kind of like tubes and can get clogged up by people streaming videos and such, but I've noticed that in all the networks that I monitor, it's not that big of a deal. If it ends up being a big deal, then develop a block to those websites. It's not hard. Ted Stevens said it took a while to send a file? How big is this file? Was it a simple text email? If so then it's not a problem of people streaming videos, it's a problem with your mail server or the mail server of the person receiving it. Even if your company is having an issue with people streaming videos, then it's not going to slow down outbound email at all because when you send an email, it's using your upload speed available instead of your download speed. When you are on the receiving end and have to download an email, then it shouldn't take a couple days either unless you are sending a massive file with it. If it's simple text, it'll still be completed quickly even if you're on a 256k connection with 5 people streaming videos. It won't take a few days.

Maybe Ted Stevens does know this, but it sure looks like he doesn't. This is pretty basic stuff too and if he doesn't know this then he shouldn't be in charge.
