Huge Catfish, Thailand Record

Fishers in northern Thailand netted this huge catfish in the Mekong River. Nearly 9 feet (2.7 meters) long, the fish tipped the scales at 646 pounds (293 kilograms). Last month more than 60 fishers in northern Thailand promised to stop catching the critically endangered giant fish, in honor of the King of Thailand's 60th year on the throne.

Jesus, I think that's gonna hold the record for a while. And it was probably reeled in by some sort of mechanical reeling thing tha was built into the boat. I forget what they're called...

Yes, and I don't believe the old guy was able to pull the fish in. He dragged it alongside his boat and the sharks ate it.

i used to live in easthampton NY and my neighbor holds(held, might of been broked) the record for the largest cat fish in the easter continents @ a little over 1500lbs the fish was about 11' tall it took him over 6 hrs to reel in and he ended up having to net it once he got it close enough

i think it was caught in a trawler, seeing as it said he "netted" the fish as apposed to catching it

To ben0087, and keithM, i think the word your looking for is a hydraulic winch, but i bet it was tested somewhat with that fat fish,

Old Man and the Sea is an American favorite... (written by a Cuban?!?! Oddity)

I wish they would of said how long it took to fight the fish. Some of the tuna we fish off our coast take days to give in.
