Really cool vid. I take (and love) kyokushin karate, but have always liked taekwondo's kicks. Nice stuff!

Not the kicking thing, but the falling down part.

Meh. Kyokushin videos are more impressive. Like that one from the 80s with that dude hookin people by the neck with the back of his knee... That looked like it hurt. This looks like a bad kung fu movie.

as artemis said..that looked fake. That looked like it was all scripted, specialy when the guy turns his back, then reverses the punch from behind..and as a staged show..this was lame

@Artemis Entreri
These are DEMONSTRATION techniques, of course it's fake. What do you expect? People being carried away with bleeding noses and broken bones? What it shows is timing, precision and speed among other things. It's not supposed to look like real fights.

If this was a real fight, do you really think the opponents would stand there with a piece of wood in their hands so the other guy can kick it in half? C'mon, you cant be that stupid..

Ive done taekwondo, and trust me, it isnt easy to do things like this. You wouldnt want to run in one of them in an alley ^^

@Saaaaad
You sound as if you're not sure it was choreographed. Of course it was. Isn't it obvious? Have you never seen a real fight or even a competition fight? Once again, it's not supposed to make you think it's real. It is still impressive, isn't it?

I'm all for Martial arts..
Having done Uechi-Ryu Karate for a number of years and recently starting up Bujinkan Ninjutsu I would like to think I know my stuff.
Taikwondo is not a martial art, it is a sport.

We recently held a tournament here in Sydney, Australia in which it was mixed martial arts.

About 8 of us from Uechi-ryu karate entered as well as boxers, dancers and any other style you could think of.

The tai-kwon-do contestants all quit half way as they learned that in tournaments we dont use armor.

Basically it's nothing more than a fitness thing.

@Ugraded
I'm surprised to hear they quit for a reason like that. Are you sure that was the real reason and not just a rumour? There are some clips on this site of Taekwondo contestants fighting without protective gear.

You can't judge a certain martial art by only a few practitioners of that art. I've seen Karatekas and Muy Thai fighters knocked out by Taekwondo fighters in mixed competitions (no protective gear, punches to the face allowed). This doesn't mean Muy Thai or Karate are inferior martial arts, it just shows that those particular fighters weren't good enough.

Did you do well in the competition you mentioned?

@ Mandlebaum
Perhaps my previous post was a little to harsh.. There are some great Tai Kwon do fighters out there, I think perhaps the style is just a little slack around this area of Australia? ( I dont know what style of TKD it is )

Yes they did quit for that reason, but one of their students got beaten up pretty bad by a contestant kick boxer.
Unfortunatly they hadn't trained their bodies in any way to take damage, but they could sure kick well!! Perhaps it was just a Sensei?

I once wrote an email to Chuck Norris ( true fact ) he replied about 2 months later as I asked him the question ' Are any martial arts better or worse than eachother, how can you tell which one to take up '
I recieved this reply..

" Don't worry about what other people say, they are not on the path and do not know. Even some small minded people who think they are on the path do not know. Martial arts is an art and a disciplined sport. The style isn't so much important as the quality of your teacher and your progression in mastering your own body. That is the essence of Bruce Lee's teachings. The only martial art for you is the one you are creating through your own growth. Each style is a fascinating venture into different discoveries and philosophies. Take what works, the "best practices" of all you encounter. Learn how to strike and kick effectively, how to move, how to spar with someone skilled in moving. Don't be so concerned about looking like a particular style, whether it is Okinawan or Ninja or Thai. Focus on putting the energy in developing the best technique and skills that work. You will learn proper form. Go beyond and understand WHY it is proper form. There are physical reasons for it. Once you understand WHY you will be better at it.

The best fighters at this stage are "mixed martial artists" who combine a variety of skills and styles. Again, reflecting the wisdom of Bruce's teachings from over 30 years ago. "

Anyways, to answer your second question, I got to about the 3rd round ( Before the Semi finals ) in which I was beaten by a rather Large fighter whom I belive was trained in JuJitsu and perhaps another art ( possibly boxing)

There are 3 types of Taekwon do styles, WTF(World Taekwond do ferderation) as show in this clip wich is more of an sport than Martial Arts, and is the only form wich is an Olympic sport. ITF(International Taekwon do ferderation) and GTF(Global Taekwon do Fedreation) wich is an Martial Art style in every way also refered to as Odo-Kwan style.

@The-J-M@n
I have never heard of GTF before, but I searched the internet and it seems to be a Canadian organisation with branches abroad. From what I found, GTF isn't even represented in Korea. Why was GTF founded? I couldn't find any explanation why they thought a third organisation was needed. Maybe you know?
