This is a S.M.B.2 release in Japan, yet there appears to be no Mario. Correct me if I'm wrong.

it was a compleatly different game
this game was out before they made the mario 2. when the original did so well in america they needed a 2 to cash in so they took this game and changed the characters to mario ppl and marketed it in the united states as mario 2

What soulfier said. The game, as is mentioned in the commercial was called Doku Doku Panic. They slapped on Mario in the States to make money.

it's Doki Doki Panic which came out on the famicom disk system. It's based on some japanese tv show that had an arabian setting. The characters were later changed to Mario and his friends for the US release (The US release was later released in Japan as Super Mario USA). Since this was on the famicom disk system the japanese game actually had some differences in the animation and sounds along with a save system.

famicon disk.....it was tapes just like nes but smaller, u can actully get a adapter to make u famicon games on nes, its a bitch tho and hardly works.

It was a pretty lame transition though. I mean Mario 2 was fun as hell.. though I admit I was alwayse the princess... SHE COULD GLIDE! Come on, she was obviously the best char.. Mario 1 will alwayse own for it being... THE game.. but Mario 3 to me is still perhaps the best game ever.. like, new games are all Uber effects, graphics, realism, and thats great... but come on. We could play this over and over and over and over and ove rand over and over and over.. and we never got bored.

Thats cus kids today have ADD :D.. we practiced the same thing over and over, learning to time and predict.. making us l337.. games have ruined the world, along with cartoon all day television chanels.

im sure kids of yesterday had ADD too, i mean we all had to get it sumhow...

and i hardly think that cartoon all day channels are civilisations problem. its more like inability to accept other cultures, violence, inability to accept other peoples opinions and lifestyles, inability to act and speak freely, etc.

the fantasy world of cartoons and video games are there to escape what can sometimes be a very harsh reality. its not the cause of todays problems; it can almost be seen as a solution... ALMOST

Well, I thought most ppl knew about the "doki panic rip off" good job informing everyone though. Also ADD is a bunch of bs created by single moms that think their little boys have problems cause they run around and act a fool. They don't seem to understand thats how kids act and the drug companies/drs. are more than happy to pull in billions prescribing bs drugs. When I was a kid all my teachers insisted I had ADD but I was fortunate enough that my 'rents took me to a REAL fucking doctor who bassicly said "nope, hes just a normal kid."

Actually, the reason they replaced the Doki Doki Panic characters with Mario ones in the States is because Super Mario Bros 2 was too difficult for the average player. Some of you may know it as The Lost Levels from Super Mario All Stars.
