Retired Cop Wants Drugs Legalized

A self-styled Texas cowboy is waging a cross-country battle against the country's drug policy, one hoof step at a time.

Howard Wooldridge, a resident of Fort Worth, Texas, and retired police officer, rode his horse more than 3-thousand miles across the country to speak out against U-S drug policy.

Wooldridge believes illegal drugs should be treated the same way as alcohol.

"We should spend more time chasing DWIs instead of people like Willie Nelson who want to smoke marijuana on their back porch," Wooldridge said.

Wooldridge's trip began in March in Los Angeles. He traveled with Sam and Misty, a one-eyed horse, and reached Battery Park in New York City Wednesday. His girlfriend, Norma Sapp, followed in a horse trailer.

Wooldridge says that after three decades of fueling the anti-drug war with over half a (t) trillion tax dollars, the court system and prisons are choked with nonviolent drug violations and drugs are more potent and widespread than ever.

The 3,300-mile trip was sponsored by Law Enforcement Against Prohibition. The group is made up of current and former law enforcement officials and advocates for drug policy reform.

Wooldridge said he traveled about 25 miles day. Because much of his trip stretched across highways, he often walked with the horses instead of riding them.

"No real cowboy would ride his horse on hard pavement," he said.

This guy is great.

marijuana IS safer than alcohol. anyone who thinks otherwise has either never tried it, are sober all around, or are total idiots that need to get reamed in the ass by a ten foot light pole drenched in 2 parts gasoline and one part motor oil and set on fire.

Marijuana is illegaly illegal. Marijuana is safer than alchocol by a factor of you wouldnt believe it if I told you. Example, marijuana has a recorded use of 6,000 years. Not one recorded death. Not one. And trust me "they" have been looking for it. Alcohol kills a certain amount of people each and every year. year after year after year. It is guaranteed that at least several thousand will die from alcohol and tobacoo.

Does that mean we should illegalize those as well? Hell no! It means that if people are able to make their own choices regarding their health on matters such as alcohol and tobacco, than that stands for marijuana as well.

The only big change that will occur in American politics is when we unite and take our country back.

Live FREE or DIE!!!

The public needs a biased free look at marijuana. Sure, marijuana can be addictive if you have an addictive personality. It's the craving of the high you get. That's it. There is no addictive agents in marijuana. THC is not addicitve.

I think this country would be better off if they legalized and started taxing marijuana. They've done it with tobacco and alcohol.

You never start shit with anyone while smoking a bowl or a joint. That's the way it is here anyways. I've had plenty of people I dislike or had a real problem with and if they're at one of my friends house, we put our differences aside and enjoy the power of marijuana. It's seriously a peace maker.

Does marijuana really affect your driving? I don't think so. It doesn't disable you or anything. If anything, it heightens (pardon the pun) your senses while driving, making you paranoid and making you more aware of your surroundings.

Kind of a scattered argument but I get my point across....I think.

The only reason pot is still illegal is because the government has no forseeable way of controlling it's production and hence reaping taxes from it's sale. It's got nothing to do with public health, it's simply a matter of greed and control.

marihuana, known on the street as "weed", "hashish", "rocky road", or "cocaine", is a highly addictive and dangerous narcotic. it acts on the central nervous system, impairing judgement and causing hallucinations. thousands of people die each year as a result of marihuana use.

Infested:

I'll assume you're actually a pothead trying to be funny, because no one is that lame / ill-informed. Not that it even matters in the first place, but if you really wanto to run with this cheesy irrelevant point of yours, let's go...

If pot were legalized, it would be regulated like anything else; hence, people would be required to enjoy their reefer in a concealed environment or certain locations.

Actually learn something before you decide on your political stance or else your say has absolutely nothing to do with anything.

The pros for cannabis legalization are so much higher than the cons.
There are both, yes...so everyone's going to throw back one point at a time as if that actually means something - well it doesn't - it's a matter of what's best based on an unsolvable war on drugs with certain options.

"It's a war on personal freedom..."

marijauna won't be legalized for a long long time. the government makes too much with it being illegal. They get all this tax money to put these "criminals" away. It all started with the paper mill, when it was invented, they made pot illegal becuase hemp made better paper. the papermill companies wanted more profits so the appropriate laws were put in order. it's only illegal for money, don't even think for a minute its about the danger of smoking it that makes it illegal. and you're arguments prove that it has nothing to do with that.

I am for weed to be legalized but it won't be come on this is "America" to do this the government would have to admit defeat..... and then go on to explain why they kept dumping all this money into it when they knew they where losing..............

Oh and why haven't we seen lots of drug busts sense we are in the WAR on Terror with more secured borders and ports its all a big Joke........what they stop the trucks and stumble over the weed and other drugs, then jump out oops, no WMD's here............

Hate to say it but our countries priorities are screwed

It's not highly addictive. Cocaine is NOT marihuana, cocaine is synthetic, this means I can't grow it in my garden...

[Sure why not legalize it, that's the all world needs, more lazy asses and dumbasses in it!]

I live in the Netherlands, marihuana is partly legalised here. We're not lazy or dumb because of mariuana. Besides, only a few people smoke weed, tabacco and alcohol are a much larger problem.

They should just go ahead and legalize it since this is supposed to be a free country, that way it will become cheaper and the law won`t have to constantly arrest people for having it, and if people are stupid enough to become addicted, waste their money, pollute their mind and body, etcetera, etcetera, so be it, cause it is their choice, the people`s choice...

Legalizing it will not make it easier to get pot.

If legalized, there would be no market for the criminals...therefore they wouldn't sell it (no money in it if it's legalized).

Legalizing it will make it easier to get PURE pot, instead of shit that's laced.

As far as controlling someone's life, the government can only do so much before they should realize that educating people instead of filling them full of propaganda should be the way to approach an issue like this.

Once educated properly, one will be responsible and comfortable enough to make their own choices and be more at ease with the idea that they're not being prohibited from pot for no good reason.

There are so many drugs that are abused that we really don't have time to bother with pot if we plan on solving the real problem-drugs. There are many prescription drugs that can be abused. Pot is probably the least harmful mind-altering substance you can consume, especially if digested.

This issue has been completely built on politics instead of common sense. Once the people lose common sense, they need laws and people to tell them what to do more and more - that's not good - sorry, but I'm a libertarian.

Maybe a commend from a dutch person to stirr up some more emotions.

Yes canabis does have some drawbacks. It does, if you smoke large quantaties make you paranoia and distrustfull towards other people. Will it kill you, no it won`t. But the main thing is if the youth gets to get their thrills on so called (soft drugs) like canabis and mushrooms The gap towards moving on to Hard druggs (cocaine and the likes) becomes mutch bigger.

Something to thinkl about

total agreement with Electrokah here.

As a Dutchman, I have "off course" tried some substances, like marihuana, cocaine shrooms valium and many others, but none got to me so well as sports.

Drugs don't kill you nor screw up your body worse than alcohol or sigs, most just alter your consciousness for a short period. It doesn't give netto happyness, so it's only fun to try once in a while. Sports in contrary give a great feeling doing it and afterwards. While cocaine is some temporary self-esteem in powder form; athletics/kickboxing classes result in chronically enhanced chillness.

The key with al substances is moderation. If you're a normal person you try drugs, laugh at the effect and go ahead with your live. Only excessive abuse and impure drugs bring you in serious trouble.

I'd say get in some relaxt sportsclub and don't fear nor worship drugs for it's just not that spectacular.
