Ya the kids of today sure know what they are talking about.

Pretty soon they will say Billy Joe of Green Day is better than Jimi Hendrix AND that BJ (haha) taught Jimi everything he knew.

Yup, the kids and music of today is stellar ain't it? If the kids in bands today don't have a guitar in hand, they are off doing a Verizon Commercial.

Hey yo, just "keepin' it real".

(rolls eyes....)

Dimebag was good, but he should never ever be even mentioned in the same breath a Jimi Hendrix. There are a few legends with the guitar, Clapton, Hendrix, Paige, and a few others.

Its hard to sit there and compare whos better, but no one can repeat what Hendrix did. He wrote his hit songs like Purple Haze within 5 minutes, off the top of his head, that my friend is pure genious.

Can people play faster than Jimi? Maybe
Can people play better than Jimi? Maybe
Does anyone have better talent than Jimi? No.

Hendrix is untouchable.

Jimi...I only wish i could have seen him in concert. He is untouchable, as are the Doors, and Cream. The sad thing is that all great musicians come to a halt before they even started. Jimi had so much more in him. R.I.P.

I judge good guitarists based on how good it sounds, not how fast they can play.

That's why I love John Frusciante, every riff and every solo sounds amazing.

By the way, Tom Morello only sounds good because he's all effects.

i agree with natetan90 , jimmy is untouchable...
rip jimmy...
rip dime...
now the dimebag thing...
the only reason anyone is saying hes better than jimi is cuz of the way he was taken from us. PERIOD. were you saying he was better than jimmy when he was alive? if dime were here today, he himself would NEVER say he was better!!
and by the way! was anyne,ANYONE IN HERE, a fan of pantera in 1990?
do any of you know about the METAL MASSACRE series of cassettes that had both pantera and metallica on them, but they were different band names !!
can you name them? !!!

....and thats all i got to say bout that

Its not about flash, its not about pinch harmonics, its not about sweep picking, not about 32nd notes and endless tapping played ad nauseum-If its not from the soul, its just noise.

Its about the heart- How does the music make you feel? Does it touch you on a deep emotional level? Do feel frustrated and tense, wound up when you are done playing? Or do you feel good, your spirit set free from the pain of material existence by the rythym and harmony?

Hendrix was special because he expressed himself through the music so freely- No other guitarist I've ever heard could do that so well. Sure, many people can play his songs note for note, I play some of them too, but they are not my blues, I'm just copying them. No one can "be" Hendrix, 'cept Hendrix, they were his licks alone. It doesn't even matter if the art of guitar playing evolves far past his skill, they can never copy his soul. The man Hendrix still remains.

My personal "play list" includes Stone Free, Red House, and Rainy Day (Dream Away). (Those are the only ones I can play half assed competently)
Also do a ton of Trower's stuff, Claptons "Sunshine of your love", Jack Whites' "I fought Piranhas", Jimmy the Exploder, Blue Orchid, some BB King, blah blah who cares what I play.

Eventually, you need to play your OWN song, find your own blues, and it won't matter how fast or flashy you play it, it will be worthwhile and viable, because it is something that you created. Everybody has a story of their own.
