so sick of the mac hatred. most of this is BS anyway; pcs crash, lock up, and basically fuck up far more often than macintoshs. they're also horribly unfriendly to n00b users (unlike macs, which are very friendly). on the other hand, pc's can be custom built, tend to be cheaper and .......support far more games.

that's that. no reason to hate one platform more than the other. perosnally I use a pc, but that's cause i like bulding my machines, playing games, and i'm a cheap mother fucker. but if i had a choice of a work computer, it's probably going to be a macbook. why? mac's are better for work; pc's are better for play. end of story.

^^ i agree with you OmegaVader, most people say that mac cant do this mac cant do that and PC can. the main reason you get a mac is so you dont have to put up with a PC. i just got a Macbook for college because i dont want to spend a heck of a lot of time trying to get my PC to work while a deadline passes me up. for college work and all that imma use my Macbook, for gaming i'll use my PC.

The only reason a mac is good for work, and the only good work you can work on a mac is graphic work nothing else, games cost to bloody much and yes its darn easy to lock up/crash a mac i've done it by total accident many many times that why i don't repair or even come close to any macs. if i want to do gaming, watch movies, screw around it will be on a pc, and the whole virus thing about macs, yes macs have many virus's poping up now a days since the system is more commonally used. not to mention mac's are now using more pc based hardware which gives them more flaws so its all grand, fuck macs go UNIX!

How can macs be better for work? Most programs have the same interface and the only real difference is that the pc mouse has more than one button.

i saw a mac ad recently that said something like pc's are good for spreadsheets, but mac is the best for music, movies and entertainment... which of course is total bullshit cause i have a pc and i download my movies and music with programs that wouldn't even work on a mac.. and of course games suck on mac so i don't know where they get off claiming its a great entertainment machine...

I run a mac and a PC. The Mac OS is extremely stable. The only things that ever crash are Microsoft programs. And even those just crash to the desktop, they don't lock up the whole machine.

The windows machine is a more powerful computer. It sucks up a lot of power and it rocks for games. I use it mainly for games. And it was a much cheaper deal as far as processing power for the $.

If I want to get any work done i use the mac. And I kinda like that the DVD player starts up when I insert a DVD. I mean, WHY DID I INSERT THE DVD? Cause I want to look at its raw code?

Of course, you can disable that feature, but I suppose pulling down the preferences pane is too "touchy feely" for people who are used hacking into the IRS root directory.

As far as troubleshooting goes, I think it really depends on which system you are familiar with. I think DOS is good for people who started out writing their own pong programs and can solve logic syntax riddles in their sleep. Actually I
think DOS still is sort of a pong program. It's pong for people who like logic syntax riddles.

Anyway, both systems have their points. The clip was a lame spoof on the "switch" commercials.

Ctrl-Alt-Del requires the same number of keys as Option-Command-esc.
It's a tie.

Both Macs and Windows systems suck. But let me add this in. At least Windows users know their OS sucks, Mac users are so arrogant they think Mac OSX was made by god, or to them Steve Jobs, same thing.

However, the ultimate bow down by Apple was their move to Intel. Wise business move, but they still think they have the advantage?

Macs are for women and people with an IQ below 12.

Finally something pro-PC...I registered just so I could say how happy I am that someone took the time to invest some thought into why Macs have their disadvantages. I agreed with just about every point the guy made...and I'm even writing this from a Mac.

Another thing that venomhed mentioned that I think is very vailid is, "Mac users are so arrogant they think Mac OSX was made by god, or to them Steve Jobs, same thing." Mac users tend to be EXTREMELY elitist when talking about operating systems.

I'm on the line as far as which OS is better because I use them both and come to appreciate their advantages and recognize their disadvantages. From years of experience I've been to forums for PC help and forums for Mac help and surprise, surprise PC forums are actually filled with information and help whereas Mac forums are dominated by narrow-minded Mac elitist that can do nothing but praise their OS's superiority.

That's probably my biggest complaint about a friend of mine. His relentless bashing of PCs - to the point that he can't bite his tongue. He even blames Microsoft(for the sole reason that they make Windows) when the XBox doesn't connect to the internet (and the truth is that the internet is out). But that's how a Mac-minded person thinks. If it is Microsoft, blame them. It can't be his fault or the isp. The link to this video should find its way to his e-mail inbox.

I hate it how most people say Macs suck just because they used a model at school or something like that. Macs that are available in public places are mostly used by people who have no clue what they are doing on it because they barely used one, so it pretty much f*cks up the computer, not to mention most aren't even OSX. Use a new model that someone owns and the experience will be way better. I used to hate Macs because the ones we had at school were like 10 years old and they were always crashing, then a friend of mine bought one and I laughed at him, until he brought it to school and used it in my face and even let me use it. My opinion totally changed and I bought myself an iBook. The applications are way better and my computer only crashed once and it wasn't really a crash its just that my battery was too low.

The best games are available on Mac and the only reason why they cost more its because they are released like 8 months later. The ones that cost exactly the same as PC games are those who are released at the same time, like the Blizzard games.

As for the only one button mouse, only Apple has the one button mouse, all the third party mouses, which 3/4 of them work on Mac and PC are 2 buttons and have a scroll wheel and you CAN right click. Now Apple released the Mighty Mouse which has 2 buttons, plus 2 on the sides, and a scroll ball.

I have both PC and Windows, I only use Windows for games, which I play very rarely, and for all the rest, I use my Mac. I'll never buy a Windows machine ever again, unless my job requires it, because I got sick of all the crashes, viruses, spyware and knowing that pretty much every program I use is available on Mac and if it isn't theres a better version available. The only thing I need for it to be complete is Guitar Pro, which the Mac version will be released June 5th.

It all comes down to what you're doing with your computer. If you're only going to play games, which in my opinion is better to buy a console because it will cost you a lot less and most games are on console anyways, get a PC. If you want to use it for work, graphics, music, video, get a Mac. Hell, you could just get a Macbook or Macbook Pro and install Bootcamp so you can install Windows on it to play PC games.

True. Maybe because Macintosh are too expensive and only offer their own proprietory peripherals which no one else is allowed to develop.

But having a Macintosh means you get the best not the cheap knock offs that the pc market has.

Also true but I want to build my PC the way I want, especially so that they don't look like artsy fartsy chicks toys.

Because they are shite. They are over priced, unsupported by industry, over hyped by the lunatic fringe that support them, non-customizable, not available on independent finance in my country, not on sale in my country, not supported by the retailers in my country (only by apple - which breaks the commerce laws here) and they are just soooo fucking ugly.

than when i got a pc i was so fucking happy when the window comes out and says wellcome i was yea and than when the icons and start meny appears and i sow how easy eas to use it i was like windows its the shit
till it crash after 2 houers from a virus ( i was like fucking pice off shit )
but i cant do anything cuz i like games and i have to have a pc that i have to install windows every 2 weeks cuz it crashes i have seen a new mac on the store it looks nice but to expensive for me so i have to stick with a pc for the moment but if mac go down in price and its equal to a pc im the first to get one cuz im sick of this windows shit every fucking day i have to send like 50 error messages to microsoft and it dosent seem they do anything about beside come out with a new windows like vista that its totally bullshit

I confess to being a PC user, builder, gamer, total geek for the most part. I also confess to having nothing against Macs whatsoever. Back when Circuit City salesmen were commission, I solg quite a few of them. But, I do have a problem with the very vocal Mac users. Most aren't like this, but the ones that are tend to be smarmy, opinionated, elitist, and completely biased. They make all Mac users look bad.

The simple fact of the matter is that both machines have problems, neither is perfect. PCs are more powerful, more upgradeable, and have more programs available for their use, so God made them unstable as all hell. Macs are relatively stable, so He gave them other faults. We, as users, need to pick, choose, and shut the hell up. Be happy with your choice, don't be a missionary spreading the faith.

I've used both. Macs suck. Totally right when he says you are sharing in the MAC experience. PC's are like those one in a million dogs that for the most part do everything you tell them instantly. Macs are like the dogs that failed their training courses at doggy day camp. Macs are so "user friendly" they are user proof. You can't get them to easily do anything you want them to! It's like pulling teeth.
Anyway! That was hilarious! "Jack Russel Fucking Terrier!" and "Use it as a boat anchor!" are my two favorites.

What the fuck are you talking about? My brother works at LucasFilms and they use a proprietary Unix system on ALL computers there.

No windows, NO mac. All locked down, can't get shit onto or off of them. Very secure systems they have there and I'm a full on Windows IT guy. Oh btw, I converted my brother from Mac to Windows when Maya came over, about 7 years ago. Mac just got Maya what, 1.5 years ago?

Mac is for publishing, it has NO balls to do a render farm and doll out the insane amount of power to render any movie that Lucas Films does.

If you use bootcamp on a mac, does it stop the crashes that windows normally has?

I think macs and windows are pretty even. But linux is the ultimate. The only downside I've found to it is that its so hard to install. You can even have linux and windows on the same hard drive, for easy switching to gaming mode. But then again if bootcamp allows that, I think macs would have an advantage on windows. Unless of course windows has a program like this that simulates the mac.

I work in film and currently have worked with the two best of PC vs Mac. The AMD x2 4800+ and the G5 Quad.

As far as which is easier to use, I go with Mac. But that's the point of the Mac.

As for which is a superior machine on paper, the Mac, again, but really you're comparing the power of a dual core vs the power of two dual cores. As for which makes more sense money wise, a PC.

The Quad I've been working with, including monitor, cost almost as much as a brand new Ford Mustang GT. The AMD box could've been purchased 7 times over for that much money and, as such, you could have a workstation and a 6 computer renderfarm for the same price.

As for which one is more stable, in the last two months I've had the Quad lock 6 times. Windows machine hasn't crashed once yet. Basically, if you know what you're doing with Windows you'll have a very stable system where as the Mac is advertised as "Get it and go." but in my experience, locks up more. Only thing I ever liked more about a Mac was one time in 1995 I got to work on a machine that had Risk on it.

I personally dont like macs.. Ive used them before, as a matter of fact the first computer I ever played on was a mac.. I dont like the interface of the OS, I dont like the fact that the mouse has only one button.. (sure you can get a programbale mouse) And i dont like the fact that its so hard to shut a program down.. Macs are good for editing but I dont see the use for anything else.. I personally need a computer that can run an editing program, play music, play high end games, and Do what ever I need it to do.. I get that out of a PC.. And a PC is easy to turn on.. I know someone that changed to a mac, And had to fucking call IT on it to find out how to turn the bloody thing on..

So anyways.. Like what you wanna like.. Just dont throw your MAC in my face telling me its better than mine..

P.S. The only thing on a mac that i like is the LCD Monitor..

I work as a technical support agent for a big internet company, and I can tell you from experience it was waaay easier troubleshooting issues on a macintosh rather than PC. Winsock errors on Windows are just a bitch.

i used a Mac many years ago, everything he discribed there heppend to me then, i used one recently, and....everything he discribed there happend again, crashed a few times, draging items didnt copy, which i had forgot i probably spent a good 5 minutes looking for the files before i remeberd that.

Most of you have never actually given the Mac a chance. You're just afraid of change or anything different than what your skimp wallet can afford. Don't knock it if you haven't actually tried it. Playing with it for 10 minutes doesn't count. Hate it all you want. This is obviously just a player haters ball over something that accounts for 5% of the computer market share.. If you don't like it, don't use it.. but there is a reason top professionals in a variety of fields prefer them over PCs.. namely stability and simplicity. it's just when i use a mac, it tends to crash when saving files, or at really inopertune times. sure PCs crash too when i use them, but 99% of the time it happens when i push them too hard (too many apps, game settings too high, etc.)

As for all you people that complain about viri on PCs I have this to say: IDIOTS...if you get a fucking virus there is about a 99% chance it is your own damn fault. I have been a PC owner for several several years (back to win 3.1 and before) and the only virus I have EVER gotten is when my wife was downloading N64 Roms.... All you have to do is run a hard firewall, soft firewall, and a good real time anti-virus and anti-spy. Oh yeah, and the hard part, DON'T DO STUPID SHIT. Don't go around opening shit that you don't know what it is, and looking for random porn on the 'net.
I run my own small PC tech company, ( I am the only employee :) and almost every job I get is a totaly screwed up system caused by things people do to their own PCs, more often than not, its someone who just bought a new PC and didn't install their security software, they think that just because it came with it, it should be working....

Macs fucking suck, the stupid one button mouse, the way they look, and the price is crazy, the pc I am typing this on right now cost me about $1500 (over a year ago, top of the line at the time) for the same system on a mac I would have paid almost $3000!!!
Most people (in my experience) that laude the mac and shout from the roof tops steve praises, are spoiled little brat college kids that had their parents buy them the lates mac, ipod, car, and their fucking tuition they don't know shit about the real fucking world.

I'm a programmer and I used pcs for like 18 years now, I recently used a mac G5 with 2 dual cores with OS 10 or 11... Danm it's far from being friendly and not performant vs my pc at home. MACs are way behind my 1 year old PC. And people are wondering why MACS doesnt have much virus, trojans, spywares? Just use your head (if you like MACs it will be hard to use it, anyways) Windows OS & Pcs are about 85%++ of the market, followed by linux, and the last one, MACs, WHO would bother making viruses, trojans and suchs for 2-4% computers? People making viruses and such want to contaminate the majority, otherwise, it wouldnt make sence. Who would buy a 'stylish' 23'' mac screen for 2000$ us just because theres a ugly apple on it... while I can have one 27'' with same specs for 1000$ us... come on... PC's owns mac in all aspects... As for those who knock on Windows and their viruses, let me put it this way. You only get a virus in your PC if you're careless or stupid, and nobody cares about the Mac enough to write viruses for it, because, to put it simply...virus writers believe that owning a mac is suffering enough.

As such, 51% of the crashes happen due to human stupidity. Those that aren't are caused by inadequate system specs (Most prebuit PCs skimp on RAM, GFX and Audio cards) or incompatibilities between different parts. Something that can be avoided with some thinking.

When programs crash or locks up the system, Ctrl+Alt+Del allows you to CHOOSE the problematic program to terminate. For a Mac, force-quitting a program is a russian roulette affair, sometimes you terminate the right program, sometimes you terminate the wrong program which completely fucks up the system. Also, the memory assigned to a program is FIXED, not dynamic and aiutomatically adaptive like windows programs, but fixed. And that is fucking wasteful.

You see, PC's account for the fuckups that will inevitably happen and offers some primitive form of safeguards and support. At the very least, things like system restore, scandisk, windows update et al. Macs have NO such tools pre-installed, if you want those diagnostic and repair tools, you'll need a third party, but.....fuck....wait! What support? There is hardly any Mac software store that offers such tools. And even if there is, their shite is as pricey as a fucking XBox360 a copy.

Not to mention that tech support, if any are nothing but a bunch of arrogant, pretentious fuckballs who charge 3x more to repair a say...CD-ROM drive than replacing a PC CD-RW drive and does a shitty job of it. My late iMac's CD-ROM drive died like one month after it was repaired....and I paid those sons of bitches $199 USD for it! FUCK!

I fucking hate macs, I used them and the experience is worse than being forced to use a virus-ridden Windows ME PC.

I am pretty sure that if anyone of you uses a Mac for a month straight then a good majority of you will like it and realise how much better it is than a PC computer. I use both myself. A PC at home, which I use for gaming and such, and a Mac at work, which I use for web design, photo and video editing etc. They are the ultimate professional computers available and are way more stable than PCs are.
Also, you can now get the best of both worlds and have Windows XP on the new Intel Macs (legit) using the BootCamp beta which should be officially appearing standard with the next release of MacOS (if my memory serves me correctly).

I used both PC and MAC for professionnal graphic editing AND printing... The blasted 'almighty' G5 (mac) crashed several times had so much trouble and was pretty slow vs the PC I have at home. Not to mention that the G5 had 2 dual core CPU and 2GB of ram. In the old time macs were more performant. Of course they were compared to PCs since they were comming with SCSI interface instead of IDE (then again, u had to pay the price from the apple conspiracy of suckyness). Now that they see that MACs cant run shit, they are switching to Intel CPUs for compatibility and to be much more affordable than standard mac crap. Altho, it's pointless. Your on MAC os? Need to use ONE program that runs on windows XP? Got to reboot your gay mac, run windows, do your stuff for 5-10 min with the required program, reboot on mac os whatever, do your stuff. Just pointless.

Mac users are just narrow minded and doesnt want to see the truth. Thats what I see in the compagny I work and everywhere I see a noob mac users (all of them rofl)

Let me set some of you straight on macs.
First of all alot of the stuff this guys is referring to on the Mac OS is what took place during the Apple switch from OS 9 to OS X. The first release or so of Mac OS X was very buggy, so buggy in fact that almost nothing could get done. How do I know he's talking about OS X 1.0? He' using a Quicksilver Power PC Tower and the Bondi Blue original iMac. If I am correct he recently switched from OS9 to Os X. Meaning, the new Os is buggy and practically a beta version of OS X. He obviously has no clue how to use OS X, otherwise the Dock icons wouldn't be bouncing... you can turn those off.
As far as the Blue Apple nonsense he spews the reason they reserve the space for the menu bar is the same as Windows reserving the small space for the whole "start" menu button... it's really to big.
For all you who have the belief that macs are more expnsive that that of Pc's, you're not digging into the issue deep enough.
Compare a Dell or HP Desktop/laptop to that of a mac. But be sure to make sure the specs are the same, that the bundled software with both computers is the same. Now remember that All Mac's come bundled with iLife, standard. That means, Garageband, iMovie HD, iTunes, iPhoto, iWeb, iDVD, and not to mention the newer computers come built with iSight camera's (Great quality webcams.) Photobooth, Front Row and they all have remote controls... think Media Centre... but better.
And for all of you who still believe Macs are fischer-price toys, remember that our computers don't come in flamboyant colours anymore... While WnXP has such sexy colours as green, blue, silver, yellow and red to name a few.
Apple Computers come in sleek modern shades of grey, white and black. The Blue Apple is about the only colour you can find in the windows and such.

People stop using the stupid 1 button mouse argument, its stupid because pretty much no one uses a 1 button mouse anymore since like 5 years. Pretty much every mouse you find on the market works on PC and Mac and yes the right click works and the scroll wheel too. As for the guy who said please give me a mouse that has 2 buttons instead of one, go to the store or order Apple's Mighty Mouse with the computer.

Alt+F4 = Cmd+Q which is way easier to access than on PC. Also a great thing about Mac, if you accidently close the Window, the program isn't shut down, its just hidden. You click the icon on the dock and it comes back up with everything you had. Happened to me so many times in Wincrap.

As for the guy who said Macs are so stupid I can't shut it off, how old are you? 85? You press the damn power button and click on shut down and it shuts down.

Lemme reiterate from my previous posts (With the swears omitted since you're so prissy about it):

- Ctrl+Alt+Del allows you to CHOOSE the problematic program to terminate. For a Mac, force-quitting a program is a russian roulette affair, sometimes you terminate the right program, sometimes you terminate the wrong program which completely messes up the system.

- Also, the memory assigned to a program is FIXED, not dynamic and automatically adaptive like windows programs, but fixed. And that is wasteful.

- You see, PC's account for the messupups that will inevitably happen and offers some primitive form of safeguards and support. At the very least, things like system restore, scandisk, windows update et al. Macs have NO such tools pre-installed, if you want those diagnostic and repair tools, you'll need a third party, but wait! What support? There is hardly any Mac software store that offers such tools, and even if there is, their products is way too pricey to be afforable.

Then there are the points I haven't mentioned, like:

- A bigger library of games with lots of free-open-source development tools.

- Beat the Mac in a graphics performance benchmark. (Yes it actually happened, I'll have to ask my friend for the URL of the page in which the test was done)

Both platforms are terrific feats of consumer-grade technology, and I am a fan of both. With an open mind, you can see that both have similar benefits and faults.

Saying that one is good for work and one is good for play cannot be done. Yes, Windows machines are better for gaming, which is a simple fact, but if you are not a gamer than this does not even come into consideration. Both are adept at internet browsing, video and music playback. Sure, mac comes bundled with software which gives it a boost out-of-the-box, but nothing that cant be duplicated on a windows machine. Also, both are equally good at work - it merely depends on your niche. If you are crunching numbers all day, or in the corporate world, you are more likely to use a Windows platform. If you are in a creative field, such as magazine editing or graphic design, you may lean toward Mac. That being said, both can be used for either category.

Short part about crashing: They both do it. Don't even try to argue that one does and one does not. It is a simple fact that software will lock up from time to time, no matter what platform you use. I have used both Mac and Windows throughout my entire life, so I am fully aware that both are equal pains to deal with.

With the advent of the Intel Mac and the rise in popularity of Linux, hopefully we can all come to a middle ground one day and create peace.
(although given the hostile nature of man, I sincerely doubt that could ever happen)

Also happens that the macos is the largest unix variant (ie. linux) in exsistence.
Critics agree that the bundled software that comes with mac is the best out there for what its worth.
Regarding gaming - As was mentioned earlier, macs do support running windows. PCs however do not support running osX. Try installing it on a PC and tell me how much fun it was.

Let's review, shall we?

PCs:
*Made for intelligent beings that are capable of concious thought.
*Reasonably priced.
*Easy to repair/upgrade it yourself.
*Compatible with the vast majority of software and games.

Macs:
*Designed and marketed for people that have rocks for a brain.
*Expensive.
*Can't repair or upgrade anything yourself, you're forced to take it to certified Mac repair shop - again, expensive.
*EXTREMELY limited software options. Not to mention games, although some major titles make both Mac and PC versions, most just release their game for PC and call it quits. And even with the big titles, usually the Mac version is released MONTHS behind the PC version.

Additionally, I've gotta put in a few words about Apple's new Mac commercials. You know, the ones with the old corporate suit-and-tie
PC man, and the "cool" young Mac guy. They're really starting to piss me off.

'Mac's don't get viruses' - YES THEY DO. There have been many
viruses written for Macs. It's just that, as stated earlier, most people that write virii want to infect as many people as possible, and since the majority of people use PCs.. well, you can figure it out. If more people were using Macs than PCs, guess what? Macs would have more viruses than PCs.

Ah yes, then there's that one that glorifies all the software that comes with a Mac, and attempts to say that PCs come with almost nothing.
First of all, most PC manufacturers include tons of software with their PCs.
Secondly, the extra software you include with a computer doesn't make it any better of a computer. Personally, I prefer not having shitloads of unwanted software preinstalled. I like to be able to start clean, and choose the software I want.

"Networking"
Don't even get me started, what kinda of nonsensical bullshit is this? Who ever heard of a digital camera that works on a Mac, but not a PC? As said before, the majority of the market uses PCs.
Logically, then, would any company that wants to make money release a camera that only works for such a small percentage of the market? Of course not!

"Restarting"
Okay, this might have made some sense, if it were aired oh.. I don't know.. five years ago? PCs are alot more stable now. Rarely ever do I crash, and when I do it's usually my own damn fault. Then again, were Macs all that stable five years ago? I guess this commercial is full of shit no matter which way you look at it.

This was a year ago, and there was a trojan horse reported recently but it wasn't confirmed.

If you run Microsoft Office on your Mac you are vulnerable to all the MS Office macro viruses, but they don't affect the OS.

Apple's move to Intel processors wasn't a matter of seeing the light. It was a necessity. IBM and Freescale (formerly Motorola) had failed to deliver faster chips, or a G5 suitable for a laptop. Currently Intel has the fastest processors and that's who Apple went with. If you wait a while AMD will be faster again, it's unlkely IBM or Freescale will.

Most of the complaints here regarding how various tasks are performed on a Mac are clearly being expressed by people who have little experience on one. Or their experience was on much older systems.

This is true of MacOS 9. Again, Apple has been on OS X for 5 (longer if you count the beta and OS X Server) years now for which neither of these comments is true. You might as well say that PC's can only address 640K of RAM. That was true at a time when the Mac OS could address 16M of RAM. These are both silly numbers nowadays, but I think if you want to criticize Apple's technology you should compare current systems, not what you remember from your experience 6 or 7 years ago.

As to which system crashes more, it depends on what you do with them.
I rebooted my system a week ago after installing some software updates. But I run my laptop on different networks, use lots of different programs for web development, editing home videos, and managing different I.T. systems. It's all very stable. I have had times when things were buggy but have usually been able to troubleshoot the problem. For the most part I rarely turn it off, but when I want to it's a matter of simply pressing the power button and confirming a dialog box.

That is true, OSX did patch up most of the problems the older OSes have on their systems, but remember that OSX is based on FreeBSD another OS written mainly for PCs.

So basically, Apple had to borrow from a PC OS just to make a half decent system.

You know what’s' funny about those "switch" commercials?
They use the term "PC" to describe everything that isn’t Mac.
But every "Personal computer" in the world, including all Macs are by definition "PCs".

In my opinion, when it comes to Macs vs. "Everything else", the difference is:

what do you prefer?

1: A very well designed well equipped "pod"-like computer that comes with all the essentials right out of the box but won't ever change from the time you buy it right up until you junk it.

or

2: a nebulous configuration of hardware bolted into a frame that can be upgraded and changed as you please with a virtually infinite supply of software and downloads from the net. Oh yeah, and a wide choice of operating systems.

Mac = Personal computing (PC) with limits.
