It looked concave to me...I actually had to think about it and look at it differently to make it look convex. I think the shadow of the edge of the mask kinda made it easy for me to see it as concave.

This is actually a real effect. it's like the guy says, our brain has something called perceptial prejudice, which causes our brains to be unable to analyze the fact that it is indented. part of it does have to do with the light as well. when you move your face around, the shadows on the face also change, thus it enchances the illusion. furthermore, since the nose is the furtherist point from the eye when you're looking at the intented face, your brain exgerates its location as well. this illusion is sort of like when you drive and the houses appear to move faster than the fences or whatever is closer to you. i work at http://nyscience.org and we have the same thing.
