Negligible! What are you talking about? Korean similar to Japanese? Most Korean words have Chinese origin, not Japanese. The two languages have similar grammar, but that has nothing to do with Korea being invaded by Japan.

it is true that the korean language originated mostly off of chinese
but i wasnt talking about that

the korean language still sounds a lot more similar to japanese then chinese because korea was under control japanese government

@Negligible

Yes, Korean sounds more like Japanese than Chinese, but I still have to argue that it's not because Korea was controlled by Japan. I will try to explain why I hold this view.

1.Whenever a foreign occupier tries to impose their language on the occupied, the people will do everything in their power not to comply. There is no way that the Koreans would alter their pronunciation to sound Japanese. That phenomenon occurs if you respect and look up to another culture. Being occupied by Japan, Korean speakers were more likely to alter their pronunciation away from Japanese.

2.Language is always changing, but not as fast as your view implies. Korea was ruled by the Japanese for less than 50 years in the 20th century. I don't think that's enough time to change the pronunciation of a language. Japan invaded Korea at the end of the 16th century and controlled the southern part, but only for a few years.

3.Rather than altered pronunciation, there should have been a much larger amount of Japanese words in Korean.

4.Governments have much less control over language than most people think. Around the world government bodies are trying to prevent foreign words from entering their national languages. Maybe France is the most well known example. Korea is trying to stop young people from using slang originating in Japan. The interesing thing is that they can't stop it. If the speakers adopt the new word, it doesn't matter what the official policy dictates. Even more interesting is that the "borrowed" words often undergo a change in pronunciation (to suit the sounds of the borrowing language), spelling and sometimes even in meaning. My point is that the pronunciation is the hardest to alter. Half a century of Japanese rule could not have done that.
