Draft Resolution Regarding Iran

France and Britain have introduced a draft resolution, making it mandatory for Iran to cooperate in the suspension of uranium enrichment yesterday.

Although no clear sanctions have been mentioned in the draft, it does threaten “to consider such further measures as may be necessary to ensure compliance with this resolution and decides that further examination will be required should such additional steps be necessary.”

It is clear that any kind of action is possible when Iran refuses to comply before a deadline, which has not yet been set, but is thought to be in early June.

The US has said that sanctions against Iran would be brought either through the Security Council or individual states or like-minded states acting together.

After meeting with the German Bundeskansler Angela Merkel, Bush urged Iran to stop the enrichment program to help further world peace.

The resolution would need 9 of 15 votes in the UN Security Council. Both China and Russia have made clear they have reservations about the new resolution. Both nations have the power to veto the resolution.

"draft resolution" I've heard that before. What, not enough oil in Iraq?

so they want to make uranium, there are better ways to spend an afternoon but it's not like more developed countries don't do it. In fact we do it lots.

So it's about the fear that there going to nuke us then? just like sadam was going to anthrax us all with all those non-existant ICBM's.

Or is it just about keeping the poor poor and the rich oiled up?

my prediction, the bombing starts before 2008.

Come off man....you were saying the same shit when we were about to go to war with Iraq. Russia is no friend to Arabs or Muslims anymore after Afghanistan and Chechnya. Let's also not forget the important role Russians played in the setting up of Israel when they played the role of the back room broker in 1947. They thought that Israel would come back to bite Britain whom they considered to be their main cold war opponent at the time. Let's also not forget that they took a huge chunk of Persia away from Iran and never gave it back. They abandoned their Arab and Muslim "allies" on many occasions. No the Russians are no friend to Muslims and the Muslims know it. They Russians are in this for whatever profit they can make before it all boils over or blows away (literally or figuratively).

As for China.....we have more money flowing through China than Iran does....so your theory about money is crap too....

MAn you really just don't get it do you? Iran has a missle that can hit western Europe. If this is not speculative, Iran admits it.

They claim that they want a reactor for energy purposes even though its cheaper for them to generate energy with oil. Here's the big problem... feeder reactors, the kind currently used through out the world produce more enriched uranium and plutonium than they burn. The fuel rods used in power reactors only have to be enriched to 6-10% U237, but when they are removed from the reactor a couple years later they have much more U237, PU239, 241 and 243 than they had when they were originally put into the reactor, because fission enriches the U235.

Because of Jimmy Carter's border line retarded thinking on nuclear energy and proliferation, he banned the process of reclaimation of U and PU from used power rods. France has been far more forward looking regarding nuclear waste. They recycle it in Mixed Oxide fuel, or MOX; which, they burn in secondary reactors. The "spent" Mox fuel rods, once again have more U237 and PU 239 etc. than the original fuel rods.

The "new" technology in nuclear fuel, has really been around since the beginning of nuclear fuel. Thorium (Th)232 is fissle material in itself but can be enriched to U233 which can be used in a fission reaction. The Beautiful thing is that U and PU fuel rods coated with Th232 can be used is destruction reactors, which destroys PU and U, and the resulting waste has 1% of the radioactive life of current nuclear waste and cannot be used to build the bomb.

The Iran crisis really represents a great opportunity for the west to help the developing world. If France, England, and The USA could reach some sort of agreement, where we would build and fuel thorium based destruction reactors in Iran, in exchange for allowing Total, Shell, BP, Exxon, et al. to develop Iran's oil reserves. Then we could get the oil companies to pay the cost of building the reactors with their oil profits from Iran.

This would be a win/win for everyone. The oil companies would get access to cheap oil, oil prices would go down on reduced geopolitical concerns, Iran would get its reactors and increased revenue from trade with the west, and NATO would not have to go to war or worry about Iran getting the bomb, and highly radioactive nuclear waste, and old nuclear warheads would be reduced as they are reprocessed into fuel rods. Literally pounding our swords into plows.

not to step on your dick, but this will never happen, iran doesnt care about peace or a win/win situation. they only care about the destruction of israel and the west. they are thousands of years behind us in social evolution. they are cavemen compared to us. how do you reason with a someone still stuck in the middle ages??? ANNIHILATE THEM AND THEIR CULTURE UNTIL NOONE REMAINS.....then kill all canadians for fun

Dude, get off the crack for one. However, I have to agree that Iran doesn't give two shits about anything anyone says.

It's kind of like an armed gunman situation. The cops have backed him into a corner, they scream "throw down your gun!" He doesn't do it. Instead, he threatens them. They hold off, hoping to end the situation peacefully. Again, the guy makes a threat. At this point, they usually open fire, since the man is clearly a serious threat, and he is willing to use the weapon he has.

We keep asking nicely for Iran to stop. They threaten. Again, we ask them to stop, they threaten again. Others aks them to stop, and they threaten THEM! The question I'm asking is...why the FUCK haven't we opened fire? They are clearly a serious threat, they are serious about causing trouble, and they will not stop until someone MAKES them stop.

No, you are just often too overzealous with your approach.

That's something Guaii might say. Do you want to be like Guaii?

S'okay. I have quite a few moments like that myself. But I usually try to correct them afterwards....

It's easy to get carried away. But think about this...if we went around killing Muslims in general, would we be any better than the terrorists who kill Americans and Christians in general? As much as I hate to admit it, by showing patience to our enemies, we are showing that we can be the bigger man. If they throw a tantrum, they had better be ready to face the consequences though...Iran is a child who is getting a bit grumpy. All they need is a good artillary spanking....

First, I can see where these posts are going to go, and I'm not sure why it hasn't happened in full force yet, but the thinking will be something like, "France and Britian drafted a resolution?....this must be America's fault!" Reminds me of the muslim protestors who blamed America for the Danish cartoons.

Second, this resolution, whether it passes or not will do absolutely nothing. Basically it seems to say, "if you don't listen then...well...then we'll think about what to do about you some more" the resolution shouldn't call for military action at this point but there has to be some form of punishment.

they have all the money in the world coming in from all over the globe, the money fom ye country aint shit, what's vital to them is oil & gas, which their people are starving for and getting 'big time' from good old Iran.

and on a different note, you kinda spend too much time over here on e net for a dedicated 6-year running navy seal..
