as a person in china, who has friends in shaolin schools...today sadly the chinese system focuses on the martial arts..not the spirtual elements used to develop martial arts in china..this is a byproduuct of communism trying to erase buddhism but keep the wushu gong fu those who want to train in acutal gong fu seek out a master who is a usually a buddhist monk..those who merely want to kick someones ass...goto shaolin schools where they profess to teach wu shu gong-fu but leave out the key elements these people also usually find meaningful employment in black families (see triads) or the military police (wu jing) using their martial arts in less than noble persuits like attaining wealth, power, etc its sort of sad acutally that chinese taint one of their most worthwhile exports by removing the morality inherent in its use

Very nice moves. I practice Ninjutsu myself. The Japanese Taijutsu martial artist at the end looked like he was a Okinaowan fighter. I admire his sprotsmanship greatly, knowing that Jet used a finishing blow purposely incorrectly to keep from killing his opponent, and the Okinaowan fighter stepped down. Very admirable sprotsmanship.

^^ that is whats so great about real matrial arts. i have such a high level of respect for jet li, and bruce lee. i recently got my black belt in oyama, which is based off kyoshinka. and seeing something like this only makes me want to train so much harder to only have half the speed and tatics of jet li. left me speechless, i really want to see this movie. 5/5

very good indeed... the samurai fight was my favorite. Niether of them knew enough about each others weapon so they switched back, I loved it, its exactly what you would see in real life...

IMO Jet Li is the closest thing to Bruce Lee today, if not at that level, or hell even above that (i'm thinking openly here, after all Jet Li had all the teaching of Bruce to advance on, its not unreasonable). Though sadly we will never know since Jet Li is still fairly young and Bruce has been dead (senselessly) for a while and hind-sight is always 20/20. Also, in all fairness, even if they were alive at the same time there would not be a fight between them, they are both above that level of "competition". Both are in it strictly for inner-developement (physical and spiritual)

EDIT: also on the review of the samurai fight... The japanese man "defeated" Jet Li at the end. From that position the katana is as good as inside your throat... BUT, Jet Li was the one to offer to switch weapons, though some may argue (me among them) that it was not at all clear if the samurai would have lost if that didnt happen (he certainly would have to try alot harder)

i thought it was particularly interesting that tanaka's actor Shido Nakamura (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1217394/) could speak mandarin so well with like no hint of an accent what so ever. The honor and pride that was portrayed in this movie is quite admirable. Wish people fought more like this than gangbanging people.
