Iran Defies UN Resolution

Iran has defied the UN resolution requiring the country to stop the enrichment of uranium by April 28.

“Those who want to prevent the Iranian nation from its rights with these methods must know that Iran does not give a damn about any such directives or resolutions”, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said.

If any steps are taken against Iran, the country will react with the same severity, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi said Saturday.

The Iranian Deputy Oil Minister Mohammad-Hadi Nejad-Hosseinian said that he did not believe the UN would come with further sanctions, since the oil prices would rise as a result. The oil prices have soared since the beginning of the diplomatic conflict with Iran.

Secretary General of the Supreme National Security Council Ali Larijani said that Iran would consider moving the uranium enrichment to Russia and allowing unscheduled inspections, if the UN counsel would send the case back to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

US State Secretary Condoleezza Rice said yesterday that the US could pressure Iran outside of the UN to stop its nuclear program.

On CBS’s Face the Nation, Rice said, “I absolutely believe that we have a lot of diplomatic arrows in our quiver at the Security Council and also like-minded states that would be able and willing to look at additional measures if the Security Council does not move quickly enough.”

The Council's five permanent members and Germany will convene in Paris tomorrow, to discuss the course of action regarding Iran.

i dont think the rest of the civilized world is doing enough about this. iran is a terrorist state and they do not need nuclear weapons. the world should stand united against iran and there would be no need for war. everyone always looks to the USA to be the bad cop who jumps into everyones shit. well someone needs to do it or the world would have many rouge states with very powerful weapons. and 9-11 or the london bombings or other terrorist attacks in europe might have been nuclear.

...then what???

Iran signed the non-proliferation agreement. Curiously, that is something neither Pakistan nor India ever did, and yet the U.S. did not seem concerned with their nuclear problems a few years ago, when they were poised on the edge of lobbing nukes at eachother. I don't think you realize that the U.S. leadership is not so concerned about preserving its morals and principles as we should hope - we see them play double-standards all the time, all based on what the country in question has to offer them. Trade embargos against communist Cuba, at the same time as importing countless manufactured goods from imperial China, for example. The U.S. government is interested in control, not freedom.

The US has drawn up military plans against Iran, with an aim to destroy its nuclear production capacity. Bush has denied that tactical nuclear weapons are part of the US plan; but speaking off the record, staffers have confirmed that indeed, tactical nuclear weapons are on the table for any engagement with Iran.

~flag_waving_dipshit

Let me rephrase that for you... Amerika is the true terrorist state and they need to have their weapons taken away, hobbled, severly kicked in the nutz, whatever it takes to force feed those clowns a large portion of humble pie.

Open wide fuckface. :-D

id rather have america have nuclear weapons then a country thats leader thinks that america and allied nations live the wrong life and shouldnt be alive because last time i checked americas president wasnt the one saying that we are living an evil life and should be destroyed

and before you call me a flag waving dipshit you should know im australian and as australia being and allied nation id prefer to be alive, not living in nuclear winter or a world ruled by people who would soon bomb us because we live the so called wrong way of life

I am an american.. and although i am completely against the leadership of my own nation right now and the terrible mistakes its elected representatives are making, i would just love for the US to go isolationist for a while. Lets say for a decade... we pull all of our military back, shrink it, pull out of the UN, with all of our money and aid. We can write checks to all the jihadist nations as reperations and make promises never to step in or around the area of the holy land again in exchange for peace.. let them know they won as far as the US is concerned. Let them produce whatever weapon they want. Then the US could stop being the world's police and our young men and women could stop putting their lives on the line overseas... and then i could stop reading all this anit-US rhetoric all over the internet... that is until some shit goes down.

Because then there will be a war... a terrible one, perhaps in the middle east, perhaps eastern europe, or even Asia.. It could be terrible. Millions killed within days. Words like Genocide and biological weapons could float around in the news. And that would be the worst of it.. until one of the nations got desperate and used one of their black market bought or produced under the nose of the UN nukes and it becomes serious. Wouldn't the world then be in a pickle. "How are we going to stop this?" a resolution? a promise from the terrorists or dictator to "not be bad"?. I dont think 99% of the nations in this world have the cobbles to actually do anythign about it. So think about that. What would the world truly be like without the US for you to kick around while you sit in your comfortable homes smugly thumbing your morally superior nose at the Nation which fights many of its battles and spends much of its resources for you.

Yes we've lost our way.. yes we've started an illegal war. Yes, many of our inbred white trash people were lead into voting for that moron again because they were afraid of homosexuals. But we can find our way back. We will find our way back. He can't stay in office forever. And people like me will do our best to see that a man like him doesn not get elected again. So stop hating this nation which has given, and still gives so much. Every nations loses its way.. we just need the chance to find our way back.

Well said, joquien, well said. I agree with you on pretty much all of that, though for all the talk of an, 'illegal war' it went through the proper channels. Saddam did not listen to UN resolutions and the senate authorized the use of force, I didn't think the adminstration made enough of a case for the WMD theories to justify military action but the Senate vodted for it. And for all those who will grill your predictions, for an example of what happens with an isolationist US and no other nation willing to stand up, review european history from 1919-1941 (something happened that forced the US out of isoaltionism that year, early December I think, damn what was it?). No US in the league of nations, and europeans dealing with dictators their way, how did that turn out again?

Yeh the ignorant ungrateful snobs who flame america all the time should pick up a history book sometime. Read up on World War 1 in 1918 and how the Germans were dangerously close to winning through their Spring offensive on the Western Front but it was only because of fresh American reiforcements that finally broke the exhausted German troops and made Germany surrender. See it was as soon as the Americans were involved in 1917 and landed troops in Europe that told the difference. Thats why the Germans tried to attack and knock France and Britain out of the war before they arrived.

Now in World War 2, there is no doubt that if America wasn't involved then Germany would most likley still be in control of most of Western Europe, and Japan would of certainly had control over the Pacific and my dear home nation of Australia might be speaking Japanese right now...even though it pains me very much to say that America saved Australia it's quite true, because if the Japanese weren't fighting the Americans it would of freed up alot of their resources to pursue further conquest.

See you all condemn America just for being the biggest power in the world but you probably don't even understand that without America, we wouldn't be living the lives we do now, the life that is allowing you to write your anti-rhetoric whether it be militarily or economically, America is a benefit to this world.

I think that we can all agree that we do not want Iran getting the bomb, and no one wants to go to war with Iran. No one wants trade sanctions with Iran because it will skyrocket the price of oil.

I love the idea of nuclear power. I think nuclear power is the greatest shit ever, but I wonder how many of you know what happens to uranium inside of a reactor? When the U237 isotope is split 2 subatomics are released some of which go on to split other U237 isotopes while other go on to enrich U235 into U237 and sometimes further enrich U237 into PU 239, 241, and 243. So the reaction rods that you pull out of a reactor are richer in nuclear bomb making material than the stuff that you put into the reactor.

I believe that abundant energy is needed for material progress of the human race, but non-proliferation nuclear fuels must be used in the reactors in fringe parts of the world. The potential that they might be developing the bomb is not in the best interest of anyone. The solution is Th232 fueled reactors.

Th 232 becomes U233 in the reactor. Its a fissle material that actually works better than U237, produces more energy and has a much higher melting point reducing the risk of a melt down. Better still blending Th232 with U237 and PU 239 destroys these isotopes that can be used to make the bomb.

For about 2 billion dollars the US and the Western World could build a nuclear reactor for Iran as a good will gesture, and provide them fuel for free with made out of our reprocessed atomic warheads. 2 Billion dollars is a lot of money, but its cheaper than a war or a bomb going off in Israel or Western Europe.

I'd rather the place turn into a parking lot...but then again, I would hate to see all the "innocent" life that was lost. A country who threatens other countries should NEVER have the capability to make such a fearsome weapon. We act as the world police because nobody else does. If we don't act as the international safeguards, who will keep rouge nations like Iran, and organisations like Al-quada, Jihad, and others from getting materials for horrible weapons and nuking everything, muslim or not? As much as many of you people hate us, you have to admit, that we have come through for you fools many times.

Cry Imperialism, go ahead. You may be right, but I'd rather have a world of fat, lazy, and safe people than a world of maniacs who would sooner blow up a girl's school or shoot a teacher, than practice a little bit of tolerance.
