I've got a next door neighbour who was in the red arrows for several years, listening to some of his stories and how they did things is amazing. he once hit the mast of a yacht that had 'parked' its self in the wrong place and in the way of a show. they all have such skills though

hahaha, I remember getting my private pilot's licence and doing turns around a point the first time thinking it was so damn hard to stay within +/- 100ft... so without a doubt I have to say what these guys do is amazing, even though I truly hate them... assholes have the best damn job ever, yes I am bitter :P

Why do they use old fashioned jets? I would think that the USAF would be using the most high tech shit out there!! Those pilots were great, but those jets were like vietnam era shit! Hell! I'm embarrassed to see our display force up in that shit. You would think that we could at least afford them some retired F-14s or something!

That's the Lockheed Martin F-16, the first were delivered in 1979 to the US Airforce and the Royal Dutch Airforce... 1979, do you notice how that is PAST the Vietnam-war?

F-4 Phantoms would NOT kick their ass... the only difference is, these are show-planes so they're not armed 'right now'. But both of them being combat-ready, the F-4 is in a lot of trouble trying to be an even match.

Especially the newest F-16's are very modern, I think those are block 50/52 or something but I don't know enough about them to be sure of that, there are just 'more advanced' and cheaper to maintain jetfighters in development so that's why the F-16 is going to be replaced... probably PAST 2010.

The F-16 fighting falcon was designed to take on the soviet-era MiG when outnumbered 5-1, and still win.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the F-16 was the first completely "fly-by-wire" aircraft. We're talking advanced electronics and weapons guidance, here. I believe new F-16s were being delivered to the air force as recently as last year.

If you think those are old fashioned, you have no idea what you are talking about.

The Blue Angels are so much better than the ThunderBirds. I've seen both shows many times and the Blue Angels have better stunts and more technique.

Mixxie no your not lol I love the sound of jets, especially afterburning noise :), The F16's a great aircraft but for display aircrafy my favourite has always been the hawk and SU30, love the HUD shot, how cool is that for a job going 351 at 1250 feet past high level buildings.

EuroFighter, don't worry... he's the way he is cause his mommy and daddy would only take him to the State Fare cause that was the only thing they could afford and also told him that the US is greatest and only 'real' and good country on this earth, as an excuse for not being able to afford a vacation abroad.

it all depends on what you want to do during an aerobatic display , doesnt matter hold old or pants the fighter is , it is how manoverable it is thats why the Red Arrows use the hawk jet as it is more manoverable than what was avaliable .

correct me if i am wrong but wasn't the F-4 phantoms nickname the "lead sled"? on account of it poor manoverability but its break neck speeds?

Vipers are so "Cute"! Seriously, they're small as hell. Haven't seen a Eurofighter up close but I'm sure they're on the 'cute and cuddly' path as well. Me, I love an airshow with full-laden Warthogs on display (I KNOW - extremely biased). Although it would be fun to go to a European airshow and find a SU-25 on display - check out the competition ;P

jonnyb, you know nothing on our airforce if you think the f-16 was in the vietnam war. it is highly monuverable fighter jet. and they wont use the tomcat, the tomcat is the navy, and its not very fuel efficiant. the thunder birds are one of the top aviators next to the blue angels. and i loved the video. i loved the song so mutch that i downloaded it. and yes the raptor will shoot any thing out of the sky. but it can pull to many g's and the thunder birds dont wana rig a 22 million dollar aircraft. plus they dont need a raptor. they chose the falcon beacuse its inexpensive, easy to operrate, and it gets their job done. plus they dont wear g suits when they are flying in front of a crowd.
