Legalized Marijuana?

Marijuana, the gateway drug that has welcomed so many unsuspecting souls into a drug induced hell, is once again up for vote on whether or not it should be legalized. It has gone up for vote in many cities and many states, but as of yet not on a national level. Sadly some cities, and yes, even some states have allowed this drug to be legalized. Who is voting this stuff in?

It cannot be a bunch of degenerate slackers, who are more preoccupied with playing hacky sack and eating mayonnaise than voting. So I suspect it is only the liberal Left that is seeking to undermine our countries ethics and values. What is next for our country? Perhaps we can legalize bestiality in public places?

Pot has the following side effects: trouble remembering things, heart palpitations. sleepiness, anxiety, bad decisions, obesity, paranoia (feeling that people are “out to get you”), altered time perception, and that is just the tip of the iceberg.

Marijuana also has been shown to be a key factor in why teens choose to be gay. Toking homosexuals are 9 times more likely to contract the HIV virus than non-"reefer" smoking heterosexuals. It also tends to lead to smoking cigarettes, which can cause lung cancer. Studies show that when rats exposed to radiation were given "dank", they STILL got cancer and died shortly after. So that blows away the myth that pot has any medicinal value for cancer sufferers. Nine out of ten subjects that smoked "grass" on a regular basis (approximately one “joint” a month), became impotent and developed Erectile Dysfunction.

One side effect of marijuana use that I do like is jail time for all who use it. And that is why we must continue to strike down any attempt by the liberal left to push their drugs and hippy agenda upon us, by continually voting NO to any idea of allowing this substance to be made available to our children. It is an illegal drug that destroys young people’s minds, their relationships with friends and family, and in some cases has led to suicide of first time users.

We must stand strong as a nation to protect our most valuable asset, our children. Vote to keep illegal drugs illegal.

I used to think that Marijuana should be legalized, then I went to Amsterdam and saw first hand the effects that this drug would have if legalized. Just say Fuck NO to pot.

I don't know about marijuana being a cause of homosexuality, I have never heard that one before, but I have read that Marijuana Users are 600 times more likely to become paranoid schizophrenics than non marijuana users. From my own experience with marijuana users, they seem more likely to believe bizarre conspiracy theories than non users, but that is not a scientific observation.

I believe that everyone should have the right to choose what they want to do with their lives, even if they choose to live a worthless life. So I am conflicted about marijuana laws. I want people to choose not to use drugs, but I do not want the government interfering with the private lives of individuals.

I believe that prisons are horrible places that do nothing to reform misguided people, and they should be reserved for real criminals with real victims, not drug law offenders. How much money does it cost to lock these people up? Not only in the expense of keeping them locked up but also in the loss of productivity that that person created? Who knows?

AS I said, I'm conflicted about marijuana laws.

Who gives a fuck if its legalized. I smoke it regardless of being legal or illegal. Unless youre an ignorant asshole who does it out in the open and is asking to be caught then who gives a fuck.
And as for the keeping our children safe from damn-dirty hippies, liberals, and the devil weed, i say bah to that. Conservatives have a different poison for children: catholicism and alcohol. Catholics are notoriously intolerent toward other races and religions. I say creating hate is far worse than a person who promotes equality, tolerance, and promote peace. And as for alcohol, catholics are also notoriously alcoholics and i would bet money that each one has a beer, a bottle of wine, or liquor that the kiddies can get to right now. I would much rather have a drug that makes you angry, highly irrational, uncoordinated, and violent made illegal than weed.

For me, smoking pot is like going snowboarding or playing my guitar. It's something that is fun to do, that makes me happy. Alot of my friends have the same view. I smoke once or twice a month. It has not changed my social life, it hasn't changed my grades, they actually went higher this past year but I'm not saying it was because of the pot. I see it as a less dangerous drug then alcohol, including for my own body and for the people arround me.

There are plenty of stupid myths about weed, the fact is, the drug itself isn't dangerous, its just stupid people that aren't mature enough to do it responsably and end up ruining it for the rest of it.

Where the bloody hell are you getting your information from? I can tell you from the numerous research material and studies that have been carried out by the World Health Organisation that are widely available on the internet (if you care to do your research properly) that not one of the things you have listed is true. Gateway Drug? Marijuana is the most widely available drug in the world. So of course people that now smoke crack and shoot up heroin have used marijuana in the past. But that didnt lead them there. What do you think 100% of these people tried before marijuana and the harder drugs? Alcohol and Tobacco. The two biggest killers in the world and the two things that should be criminal. I have smoked marijuana for over 10 years now. At least 30 grams a week for the past ten years. I must be dumb and going insane by now yeah? No. I have just recently completed a Diploma of Engineering at Uni. And guess what? I have never ever used any other drug other than marijuana. Why? Because every other drug other than marijuana is either made in a laboratory or in a backyard shed. And it is not safe. It has been proven that you need to smoke/induce kilograms and kilograms of THC to even come close to death. In fact there are more people in the World that regularly use heroin and ecstasy that have never touched marijuana or have only tried it once. Why? Because different people have different reactions to different drugs. If you have an adverse reaction, STOP TAKING THE DRUG. Also at least half of the people I know that smoke marijuana, dont smoke tobacco. Myself I smoke tobacco, but I started smoking tobacco about 5 years before I tried marijuana and I dont mix the two together when I smoke marijuana. Hang on, that must mean tobacco is a gateway drug yeah? The government can tax tobacco, thats why they still sell it.

And you like to see hundreds of millions of dollars of taxpayers money being spent on looking for people that enjoy a joint in their own leisure time in their own home not hurting anyone? Get real. Stop the real problem which is Alcohol and the hard drugs. Marijuana does not make you want to go out and commit crime and it sure doesnt give you an urge to hurt others. That is reserved for the uppers such as amphetamines and heroin etc.

Nearly all the things that you have listed is typical of someone who has grown up in a society that is misinformed. Slackass playing hackeysack? Myself, I earn over $100,000 a year being a slackass then.

Until you have researched the good and bad of Marijuana, both medically and socially, do not discredit and slander one of the worlds most abundant and most benificial herb. Because that is all it is. A herb.

God made Marijuana. Man made everything else. Who do you trust?

And your side effects that you list? I have never once experienced one of these side effects and if somebody does then you would suggest to them as a GP would that they have a higher sensitivity to the drug and should stay away from it. Personal choice. In fact the side effects that you have listed here (apart from maybe obesity which America seems to have a HUGE problem with anyway) are the common side effects for nearly every medication that is prescribed from your GP. In fact, most of our prescription drugs are made up of highly addictive and dangerous chemicals such as Morphine, Cocaine, Pethadine, Methadone, Dexamphetamine etc. But thats considered OK.

Last year worldwide over a million people had to be hospitalised for adverse reactions to medically prescribed drugs that are supposed to help. About 20,000 people died. From medication that was supposed to save their life. Look at recent events. 6 people are on the brink of death from a new trial of PRESCRIPTION Medicine.

I better not shower with my 6 year old son anymore then either. I might make him gay. All you kiddies out their that hold your buddies hand while you are walking in line with your class? Better pick a girl because you dont want to turn gay. With the increasing number of television shows that make us watch two men kissing, I would say that pre-disposes children more to becoming gay. Bloody hell even our music videos show homosexual activity. And are you referring to girls and boys? What a stupid remark from a definately uneducated and misinformed person. I have numerous gay friends both male and female. Some have tried marijuana, some havent. But they all agree one one thing. They were gay before they even knew what marijuana was. You just sound homophobic to me buddy.

hahajohnnyb. You make a valid point that everyone should have the right to choose what they want to do, but smoking marijuana does not make your life worthless. The governments around the world interfere everyday with peoples individual lives. Bush's new law gives him and others even more power again to do so. Saddam was a dictator? We need to look closer to home. And I also have been to Amsterdam and have seen the massive effect that it has had on the local economy. But I didnt see any bad effects. (The only bad effect I saw was people who abuse drugs, who should not be taking drugs if they have a pre-disposition to addiction anyway.)
I saw more local jobs (the need for more growrooms and cafes), more revenue for the government (from taxation), increased tourism (from people coming into Amsterdam to experience this in a legal environment), increased takings in local coffeshops (due to increased customers) all of which have lead to a better quality of life for people who live in the area. And you have taken the major criminal element away from the criminals. With marijuana freely available from cafes, nobody has to deal with the criminal element of society and the criminals/drug dealers have very little source of revenue left.
In fact I talked to one of the local policeman in Amsterdam when I was there and not once in his 20 year career had he attended a coffeshop or cafe for unruly behaviour. Those callouts are all reserved for places that had one thing in common. Alcohol.

Hmmm, all this from a 10 year "chronic" smoker of the chronic. My diminished brain capacity and bad decisions have led me so far down the wrong track I must be a burden on society and I should be arrested and put in jail for smoking Marijuana. Wake up EARTH. The discussions that take place on the ill effects of marijuana step way outside the normal limits for discussion when talking about the benifits of a drug. There is more good to be done than harm. If the only things that people can say to a marijuana smoker is that they might (over a large period of use and time) have a diminished IQ and are pre-disposed to turning gay; I dont think that will deter people. My god if we were to list the bad effects of our prescription drugs, I would be well over the 3000 word limit allotted in this forum.

I have a brother who was diagnosed with the so called affliction ADD. Apparantly a chemical inbalance in the brain. Our brains must produce dexamphetamine as a by-product then because thats what they prescribe to the millions of people that are not anything at all except different to what everyone wants you to be. ADD, ADHD = Total Bullshit. Another reason for the pharmaceutical companies to keep getting richer and to overshadow and quash people from showing the real benefits to one of natures most benificial herb.

My brother no longer takes his medication. He now smokes marijuana ocassionaly. He is at a healthy weight now (not looking like a crack addict which in essence is what we are turning our kids into), has a stable girlfriend, stable employment and is able to interact with people around him at a greater capacity than he was ever able before. All from no longer taking his prescription speed.

Please do not get me wrong, anyone who is pre-disposed to anything whether it be addiction, schizophrenia, psychotic episodes etc should stay away from any type of drug that gives them an adverse reaction or enhances their already exposed disability. But for god sakes people, we are living in an age of so called traditional medicine where people are increasingly leaning towards alternative and ancient remedies. What used to be one of the most widely prescribed drugs back in the "old days". Take a guess. From everything from nausea to headaches to use as an aphrodesiac marijuana was prescribed. Americas first President made it illegal for any farmer NOT to grow marijuana. Not only for its hemp uses but its medicinal uses. Your founding father.

Before you push one of the worlds most benificial and most widespreadly used drug (both medically and socially), give it a try. For something that you can grow in the comfort of your own home, it saves my brother over $1000 a year in prescription drugs as is the same for many others. Dont let the pharmaceutical companies take our money and dont let our governments rule our lives. This is a new generation of highly informed young people. The oldies wanna watch what they say cause they are relying on us to keep their economy strong and to give them a prosperous retirement life. Keep sticking our bright young kids in jail (and even some of the brighter oldies),
your future is starting to look very bleak. If you do not listen to the new generation of scientists and researchers that do these studies and are increasingly putting forth opposing information to what we have grown up to take as gospel, why are we going to listen to you when we are the ones in government and you rely on handouts from us to stay alive.

what a crazy article. i hope people don't believe this. like all medicines, marijuana has side-effects and "recommended doses". i don't smoke it anymore, and i think it may have messed up my memory a bit, but i also think i learned a bit more about myself from it. and as for turning people gay (lol) maybe it just gives those people that were -already- gay the courage to do something about it. have fun and smoke safely.

Lucias, the guy who pulled this article out of his ass just to laugh at the outraged response to it (a troll) is also an editor, he has the ability to post articles on the mian page something only admin and editors can do.

Also this isn't really a forum; http://forums.spikedhumor.com is a forum but this section of the site is intended to be news articles. Either actual news or updates about the site, that's why it's listed under "News" at the top heading of the page, it shouldn't be an outlet for editor punditry.
