I saw this a few years ago when I was exploring Leone`s works. Fantastic film and seeing it for the first time nearly forty years later you can really see the influence it had on a whole range of different genres - Anime would not be the same today without this movie.

^actually, westerns like this wouldn`t have been the same without Akira Kurosawa`s influence. Watch Seven Samurai and Yojimbo.

Phytonadione is right on. Just one example is `The Magnificent Seven`.

@phytonadione - of course! I have Seven Samurai in my collection (including Magnificent Seven btw). Kurosawa`s impact was phenomenal but Leone has had a tremendous impact all his own too.

Actually Phytonadione you`re mixing up two kinds of westerns. There`s a major difference in style between spaghettie westerns like this and american produced westerns like the magnificent seven and the john wayne classics. Magnificent Seven was influenced by Kurosawa, but to my knowledge none of the Spaghettie western in the style of Corbucci or Leone`s drew any direct influence from Kurosawa`s movies.

I remember watching the special features in Yojimbo and Kurosawa says he didn`t like the way Japanese movies portrayed gun special effects. He said something along the lines of, `It needs to be bigger, the impact needs to kick up dust! Like the American movies!` What movies was he drawing inspiration from? I don`t know, maybe somebody else does.

@Muufley-Akira Kurosawa had a big impact on spaghetti westerns as well, especially Leone`s own Fistfull of Dollars, which is a direct copy of Kurosawa`s Yojimbo and Sanjiro. Yojimbo is a movie in which a ronin (masterless samurai) wanders into a town that is being terrorized by 2 opposing gangs. He then goes on to pit the 2 gangs against each other and actually gets pretty beat up in the process. But it isn`t the plots or the characters that are entirely unique, but rather the way the movies are shot, with a lot of close ups that pan out, very simple tunes that eventually evolve into orchestral pieces, and the tension inducing stare downs between the characters in which the subtle facial expressions tell the real story, that were, imho, borrowed from Kurosawa.
