I`m a romanian and I firmly believe that if all the police officers would simply vanish over night not a single thing will change.

For instance. When I was a kid I used to go to this country-wide famous guy to get my dose of pirated games (before I figured out what torrents were). Walked out of the guy`s dorm room with a bunch of CDs about 3 times a week and almost every time there were 2-3 policemen lurking about. After about 2 years of this I read in the paper about a "sting" operation that was planned months in advance (due to his elusive hiding spot most certainly) to catch the copyright infringing bastard. It said how they caught the crook red handed and arrested him but they cleverly left out the part where they couldn`t hold anything against him and the only legal thing they could do was fine him a reasonable sum for owning pirated material, not distributing it. They`re truly a force to be reckoned with.
