Kids: Hitler Was A Football Coach

One in 20 British schoolchildren thinks Adolf Hitler was a German football manager, according to a new survey.

One in six youngsters believed Auschwitz was a theme park - and one in 12 thought the Blitz was a European clean-up operation following World War II.

The embarrassing findings are contained in a poll for the veterans' charity Erskine, which asked 2,000 kids aged nine to 11 about the two world wars.

One in four said they did not think about soldiers who died then, and 40% had no idea when Remembrance Day is.

Erskine chief executive Major Jim Panton said: "Some answers to this poll have shocked us and show we have a part to play, not just in caring for veterans but in educating society.

"Children are the future of the country. It is important we help them learn about our history."

The Erskine charity, which provides nursing and medical care for veterans, will now take part in a national scheme to educate kids about the world wars.

Maybe not teaching 9 years about Hitler and Auschwitz is a good thing?

Well the survey was for 9-11 year olds and in my primary school we didn`t have history lessons. I learnt all about Hitler in secondary school. Like anyone pre-teen should really be learning about this stuff anyway, they are far too young to understand, let them have some happy carefree years before they learn how shit humans are.

Aren`t those elementary children?

They got many more years left to learn this once they reach middle school to high school.

It would go out one ear, to the other ear from elementary school.

I never learnt about the world wars until highschool either, and considering the heavy part football plays in British culture, and the rivally in football with germany, it`s no real wonder that kids made the wrong connection.

As for the Blitz, my parents and grand parents always used Blitz to describe anything thats done quickly, most often cleaning the house, "Lets Blitz it before your mum gets back.", not sure if that was a common usage though.

^ill fix it...

hello montgomery, do you recall the test paper we wrote before first recess?, some of the choices were outright rubbish. Of the question, "who was adolf hitler" I could not resist portraying the role of lummox by picking "german football manager", righty-o, it looks like recess is about done, on the job then.

this is like pg-13, if not R rated material, like a kid that age should even be taught something like that. and they probably wouldn`t understand, or even give a shit who hitler was. how can you blame parents for not teaching this to their young children? like you are going to sit down with your hyper ass 9-11 year old kid and "teach" them about the world wars.... who does that, its information that you gradually aquire over time anyways just by being a human.

maybe they should interview all of these kids once they finish school and see how many of them don`t know who hitler is. do i even have to write my guess on the number of high school graduates there are that DON`T know who hitler is?

a national scheme to educate kids about the world wars? that sound`s like propaganda to me.

this is high school (age 14-18) type of material in my opinion.

one of the most popular things among kids age 9-11 is football, so if they don`t know the answer to the question, they guess, and they guess according to the very few things they do know.

KIDS have way more important things to learn than WAR...

The crap some people publish these days...
