Woman Survives 10,000 Volt Shock

A mid-50`s woman climbed up a high-voltage tower and refused to go down. In arguing and shouting, her finger touched the power line and the electric arc jumped from her hand to her face as if she was bursting into flames. She got better. The firefighters finally got the power down and rescued her off the tower after another 45 minutes of persuasion. She probably eats pikachu for lunch.

^ exactly, and if my electronic engineer diploma has anything of validity, considering she was standing on a metal scaffold and that her whole body was touching several different metal objects, the electricity would "prefer" to travel through the least resistant path, therefore not completely flowing through her body, but dispersing through and around her, wherever her body was touching. So, if there was so much dispersal, the resistance of her body (100000 Ohms) would be huge comparing to the resistance of the metal scaffold (no more than a few Ohms, lets say 5 Ohms), and therefore the total current going through from the power-line to the ground would be about 20000 Amps. But since current goes inversely proportional to the resistance value, then only about 0.19Amps would be going through her, while the other 19999.81 Amps would go through the metal. Although she probably got a huge kick out of it, it wasn`t enough to kill her. Essentially she was acting like a voltmeter.
There`s a reason those things are made of steel and why they`re so high up, if she wasn`t touching the steel scaffold, and that current all discharged on her directly to the ground, not only would that be enough to kill you, it would disintegrate your body and whiter your skin just like that Mars Attack movie alien gun...

Body resistance is not 10 000 ohms. More like something from 500 to 1500 ohms depending on the woman`s skin humidity.

No, it`s not 10000, its 100000, or easier to read, not 10kOhms, but 100kOhms.

Jus to add a few minor comments to IonAphis`s post.

I am a practicing power engineer, the resistance of "dry skin" is 100 000 to 500 000 ohms. The resistance of internal organs is negligible compared to skin, due to internal liquids.

If you watch carefully, the path of electricity was from her right hand to her left hand. It bypassed her heart and any vital organs entirely. That is why she is alive and got a nasty burn. If it did disperse all around her, her entire body would be on fire, not just her arms and face.

She is extremely lucky this was not a lot worse. I`ve seen people getting blown up because some idiot forgot to remove a safety ground wire inside a switchgear.
