Eh, sorry, not totally convinced. When he used the word sheeple all I could think of was that XKCD comic where everyone is thinking to themselves that everyone around them are sheeple.

So what if I want to go shopping. My computer and my TV and my books and my video games make me happy. Call me a sheep. It means nothing to me cause I have my interests that I follow independently like everyone else. I`m studying math and I hope to get a job so I can pay for my eduction in astronomy later on. When I have that job I`ll be running to get there on time in my suit and tie one day and won`t stop to look around and appreciate everyone around me and that will be the day this guy is out there yelling at me to "run to work so I can make money to go shopping." That just pisses me off.

^The issue AnthonyAcc is not if you can or cannot shop. The issue is the illusion of need "Created" by the system of control that makes you wanna shop.

It`s a VEEERY complicated subject, if you want more details you can read(Simulacra and Simulation) by Jean Baudrillard witch the Matrix is inspired from.

But to make it simple and stupid:

(Religion, Education, Marketing, Government, Family) are the 5 big institutions of the modern world. And form (like any complex relations forms: microbes, evolution, etc... ) an entity by itself. (Represented by the Architect in the Matrix) Of course it`s not a person or a organization (like in the matrix represented by a man surrounded by the world on TV) it`s an entity created by the collective consciousness of everyone TOGETHER!.

(Now)as like today, the system turns out to have capitalism as a support, but can be anything, therefore the system tries to control, keep, maintain and protect that same system (like the agents in the Matrix) but everyone is an agent because we were molded and taught by the system to reject and be feared by everything that is different.
NOW it just happen to be gays, communists, terrorist... or whatever... Religions, mean kids in school, medias an everything else as strangely and evil they might be perceived sometimes are in fact the reaction of the system protecting itself. Capitalism happen to be feed with consumption, therefore you were taught to consume like you do, change your iPhone to get the iPhone 3G... or I don`t know what new shit. But if you look throughout history that a VEEERY new thing.

As strange as it may sound, that impulsion will destroy you and make you more and more miserable with time. Because they are simply illusion and nothing more. The only way to find happiness is to escape from illusions, and invest everything you have in the truth.

Well... this is where it gets tricky... what is truth and what is illusion? That`s why I won`t suggest you anything because like (Morpheus), blinded by his dogmatism, can bring you(the one)not to question EVERYTHING(like Neo) but fallow (the path) with pure faith, where at the end was just an other form of control. But it`s safe to say that in a lot of cultures, there an idea of (trinity)"Christian" to be delivered from. The most direct was the Inca (Chakana) symbolize the three levels of existence (Mind, Body, Spirit) That`s a good start.

Of course it`s INFINITELY more complicated, but that`s why they do what they do. Illuminate people about what they really are. Illuminated being.

Like what fryser_d was talking about, we are bombarded with millions of messages each and every day that influence us and the decisions we make. What this video is addressing is the manipulation behind these messages especially in our society that is based majorly on capitalism and independence. Do you truely want to go out and buy a computer? Yes? Good, go out and buy yourself a computer, but don`t let anyone else (aka the government, media, or other outside forces) tell you what you need or want.

The video also touches the subject of fear mongering. Terrorists this, terrorism that; it`s one thing to be warry of such attacks and dangers, but it`s another when the same thing becomes the excuse to manipulate everything (especially your rights and freedoms).

Like I said before, if you`re happy with the things that you want and have and what you yourself have become, good. The message that you should take from this video is to maintain your own independence and truely understand what you are capable of as an individual.

I think that when their control and manipulation becomes a reason for our rights to be taken away(Patriot Act), is when people need to start realizing the problem. It seems now that they can get away with anything if they can scare the people enough.

In America, being a high schooler everyone is so obsessed with what the media/celebrities tell them and wear.They try to constantly fill that gap. New ipod comes out get that, fashion etc.

Here is another interesting point, with technology so rapidly evolving its kind of hard not to go out and buy the next best thing?

I just think people need to think for themselves, and try to find happiness , I think that`s everyone`s goal in life.

@fryser_d I completely disagree with the fact that purchased goods give you an "illusion" or some bullshit like that. If I have the illusion of being happy, then I AM happy. If you`re gonna go and say that everything in life is an illusion, you might as well say that life itself is an illusion. In my opinion, there is no illusion of happiness. There is happy, and there is not happy. I am happy when I laugh, I laugh when I watch funny videos, the funny videos are on spikedhumor, and spikedhumor is on my computer. So my computer makes me happy. I don`t see any illusion of happiness in that.
