Rachel Maddow discusses the amendment proposed by Senator Al Franken that would withhold any govt. contracts from companies that do not prosecute alleged rapists. All 30 nay votes came from Republicans. I admit, with great shame, that one of those senators was mine.

So I sent a letter chastising him. What good will it do? A lot, I hope. Probably little. However, it felt good to contact them and give them a piece of my mind.

If your state has a senator that was listed, write them and tell them that what they`re doing is WRONG.

Rise up.

Mccain was in that list. I wonder if he was raped in `Nam.

I hope he don`t win re-election in Arizona.

"I`m not an American, but I really think republicans are incompetent fools"

If only the world were so black and white...

To Omeko & fresh2death; One is just as ignorant as teh r3publ1can senators who voted against this bill in following this concept of a two-party political system (once you choose the GOOD guy, you`ll know the BAD guy`s the other party...nifty huh?) that the government and media forces down our throats.

Open your eyes. Behind closed doors, these people with "power", Republican or Democrat, are mere sheep-ies, all a part of a one big, corrupted family.

Too bad for those senators there is now anti-rape lip gloss. It turns your lips blue if you have been raped. Booo yeah.

Anyone surprised?

Nobel Prize, Olympics, any advisor Obama appoints, 65% wanting a public government option for health care, they oppose fucking EVERYTHING for the sake of drawing lines in the sand. Make it impossible for a widely popular president to actually achieve the change we want and point the finger and scream failure. It`s their only shot at ever becoming relevant again and boy is the right wing propaganda and misinformation machine in full gear.

I swear, it`s bad here in the US. Republicans need to go, now before Fox News achieves its goal of an Obama assassination or civil unrest. Get a new party that`s slightly right of center (would be considered a "liberal" party by the rest of the fucking world) and let Democrats be proud Democrats of the left instead of centrists to appease the massive numbers of right wing religious loons here.

@Red haven, I just did the same thing as you and wrote both my senators, how the fuck is rape even a topic of debate!? Its fucking rape! You know that these mother fuckers would use their political power to bring the full force of the law on any man that raped their wife, daughter or mother. Assholes make me sick.

North Carolina GOP Sen. Richard Burr`s spokesman David Ward sends in this statement: "Senator Burr believes violence against women is despicable and intolerable, and those who have committed or abetted such heinous crimes should be subjected to the full weight of the law. Unfortunately, the Franken amendment would not do anything to protect women from violence or to punish criminals. If it had, Senator Burr would certainly have voted for the amendment. Instead, rather than protect women from rape, the Franken amendment prohibits contractors who have employment arbitration agreements with their employees from being paid for the work they have done for the military. In fact, the Obama Defense Department opposed the amendment. As current federal law states and the courts have already upheld in the Jones case, arbitration agreements are non-binding when it comes to criminal acts, like rape. Unfortunately, the Franken amendment was a cynical attempt by the trial lawyers to eliminate arbitration agreements, which limit their fees, behind the guise of protecting women." - Huffington Post

It would appear that his amendment is for naught, it was only an attempt to punish contractions for doing something he doesn`t like. Like it says, the agreement this poor woman signed is non-binding as what was done to her was criminal. I wish everyone would dig just a little deeper than what Mrs. Maddow says.

Please don`t generalize republicans (this is coming from an independent) I hear generalizations for both parties...of course most of them are funny.
